About Us

Ikat Production team consisting of designers, tie and dye artisans and network of 5000 weavers led by its Chairman Mr. Chaturbhuj Meher and ably supported by his son National Handloom Award winner Mr. Sankar Kumar Meher Managing Director has till date created more than 100,000 ikat fabric designs incorporated in its various product range like Fabric lengths, Sarees, Home Furnishings, Stitched garment range, Decorative wall hangings and various other Associated Handloom Product Range.

At our dedicated design Studio, artist first draw up the designs on paper and then convert them to graphical form. The ikat tie and dye artists then transfer the graphical designs into thread and complete the tye and dye process, upon which the weavers weave the tie and dye threads to produce the fabrics and ikat design products.

Since the initial designs are drawn up by the design studio, 52 different manual processes are followed till the finished fabric product comes out of the production line. Our website depicts a few of the important steps involved in the making of ikat through video clippings. All processes are 100Percent by hand and no machinery is involved in the making of ikat in any step.

Both the Chairman and Managing director of the company have been honored nationally and internationally and have won several laurels for the company. Notable amongst them being National Award for Handloom Design being won by Mr. Sankar Kumar Meher in 1995 by Govt. of India and Mr. Chaturbhuj Meher have been awarded India's highest civilian award the Padmashree by President of India for his contributions in the field of Handlooms in India. Ikat Silk Wall Hanging and Ikat Silk Scarf designed and weaved by the above mentioned persons won the UNESCO Craft Seal for Handicraft products in 2007.
