Indore Steel & Iron Mills Ltd. (ISIML) was started in 1948 as a partnership firm and small cross country rolling mill to manufacture construction bars by Late Sardar Hardial Singh Babbar.
The firm was converted into a privet limited company in 1975 and subsequently into public limited company in 1985.
Vision of the promoters to upgrade the mill facilities not keeping them ahead of time but with an eye on future was evident from the fact that from time to time investment was done and the major mile stone were
· Wire Rod Mill was installed in 1975 to make wire rods from billets
· No Twist block was installed for the first time in India in 1981.
· Control cooling lines along with balancing equipment to roll high carban, alloy steel and stainless steel were also installed to make wire rods in dimensions 5.5mm to 11mm.
· No Twist block of eight stands from Ash low-United Kingdom and the garret line for rolling 12mm to 21mm diameter wire rods coils were installed in 1986.
· Mill was further upgrade and modernizes to make wire rods in weight 550 kgs in 1990.
With the above facilities ISIML became leader in the country and the only company to make 550 kg coils in mild steel, high carbon, alloy steel and stainless steel in dimension 5.5mm to 21mm.
Company enjoyed excellent good will among the user of wire rods and was recognise for the quality products.
Current status of ISIML
Indore Steel & Irons Mills Ltd. Facilities to do conversion of billets of special grades and stainless steel into wire rods on job work basis.
Leader in the steel industry like TATA STEEL imposed faith in the company’s management, production facilities and the core team to enter into conversion arrangement with company to utilize the facilities on long term basis.
Other manufactures of special grade billets including stainless steel billets also came forward to enter into conversion arrangements to convert their billets into wire rods.
Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd a Govt of India enterprise under ministry of defence also reposed faith in the capability and had been getting converted ESR steel billets into wire rods. This is high value special steel used for very critical applications.
Presently beside TATA STEEL (for special grades like High Carban, LRPC etc), Rimjhim Ispat Ltd (for stainless steel in grade 200 and 300 series), Jayswal Neco Ltd (for special mild steel grades) and other important customers had entered into long term conversion arrangements to get the conversion of billets into wire rods from ISIML.
