About UsIndia was still under the British Regime. The freedom movement was gaining momentum and many young leaders and entrepreneurs were building their dreams for an independent India. The spirit of Kolkata that had inspired many great leaders, poets and architects of Modern India, also fired the ambitions of another starry-eyed teenager.
During the 1940?s a small town boy, Jayantilal Shah migrated to Kolkata and started a general merchandise business. The tea estates had already been commercialized and the charms of the East India Tea caught his imagination. When he began selling tea, little did he know that, he was on the threshold of an exciting journey into the business world of commodities. In the years to come, his sons made remarkable contributions to the fledgling business by opening new branches across India and showcasing the products around the world. By the 1960?s the rustic charm had blended with the corporate outlook. The legacy of truth, leadership, honesty and integrity was passed on to future generations to cherish and uphold. Professionals were hired, processing units were set up and many new companies were formed.
Years of hardship, sweat and struggle, had borne fruit. From one container shipment to multi-crore turnover, business had grown manifold by the 1990?s.? The changeover from family business to professional management was a gradual process as traditional values had to be preserved while embracing modernism by experts who shared their vision and passion for perfection. |
Quality Policy / ProcessesWe value the service of our Vendors and consider them as our Stake Holders. We procure Coffee and Spices directly from growers. Tea is procured from auctions and market yards either directly by our offices or through agents. Our representatives maintain a close relationship with the growers giving them advise on market conditions and latest international trends in growing and consumer preferences.
Procuring right is important. We have experienced the weather vagaries and political changes that have had an impact on coffee trading. Till 1994, Coffee was under 100% government control and weekly coffee board auctions were the main source of procurement. The quota system was gradually removed starting from 1994. We accepted the challenge and in a short time had our infrastructure in place to procure direct from growers, much before government relaxed the rules allowing 100% marketing privately to the growers in 1997.
We are popular among growers for immediate payment and innovative price fixation schemes. While the industry looks at the defect counts, we provide value for money by incentivizing premium produce.
The growers provide us the Right to first refusal in recognition of our services. At times when they find it difficult to market their produce, we help them by providing price support and continue to procure leading to carry forward inventories for over a year.
