Jatropha Curcus engrosses physicochemical and performance features like that of diesel. This essential fact improves its capabilities to be used as a commercially feasible substitute for diesel oil. More over it can be cultivated anywhere, be it gravelly, sandy or saline soils. It can sustain prolonged drought periods and grows very quickly. It spreads in thick hedge and yields from second year onwards and keep doing it for 40 years. Its seeds are produced round the year, with proper irrigation.
Uses
The oil extracted from Jatropha seeds are a good source of fuel. This bio diesel can be used in diesel engines, without making any alterations. About 31% to 37% of oil is derived from Jatropha seeds. Its bark is used to manufacture dark blue dye and wax.
The stem is used as a bio fuel and its juice has medicinal properties. The leaves can be used in for dressing wounds and flower extracts are good for medical preparations. Moreover the roots are also utilized in the production of yellow dye. The pulverized seeds imparts tanning and the cake is a good source of organic fertilizer and soil enhancer.
