| Western Australia attract more skilled migrants via Skilled Migration Strategy Tuesday, 29 March 2011 A strategy that outlines an integrated and targeted approach to solve the future lack of skilled labour has recently been launched by the Western Australia. According to Peter Collier, the Training and Workforce Development Minister for Western Australia, the economy of this state has been growing sustainably due to AUD $225 million in resource and infrastructure projects that have got underway or under consideration. This leads to the expectation of creating about 240,000 new jobs by 2017. With Western Australia's natural population growth and current migration levels, it is estimated that this state will see a shortage of 150,000 skilled workers in the next six years. In spite of the fact that the government is prior to prepare the state for the workforce by providing training opportunities and to help address skills shortages by employing other strategies, targeted migration will be very important in boosting its skilled labour needs. The government has introduced the Western Australian Skilled Migration Strategy which includes a variety of initiatives to help meet the state's work force requirements withoverseas skilled workers. The main content of the strategy are: delivering a more consistent and integrated planning approach to skilled migration, providing easily accessible and high-quality information on skilled migration, developing attraction and retention strategies to ensure a skilled workforce, and refining migration processes to support a more flexible and responsive migration programme. "It allows for the state to sponsor 6 000 skilled migrants this year for high demandoccupations,” said Collier.
