Uttam Kumar is a popular artist, born and grown up in a poor family. He belongs to (Majouri district Udhampur) of Jammu & Kashmir. Since birth he is 60% handicap from both hands and right leg. He was struggling a lot during his childhood period. He goes to school but he found very much difficulty while writing. His family members used to discourage him but the only kind teachers supported and encouraged him to move forward. He found very difficulty when he use to hold pencil for writing. He felt embarrass within himself. Then he try to hold pencil with his  hands & supported by his legs. During off hours he use to do practice of  writing and some other creative writing. 

After few years when he reached  to IIIrd standard, one of his teacher insisted him and suggested him to put concern in drawing painting after looking at his interest in art. His teacher guide him a lot and encourage his art work. Later on when he passed XII exam he has improved his artistic work. It was his great excitement and achievement.
