The founder of the company Mr. J.M. Shafiur Rahman, started business in the year 1930 as a trader of silk sarees and fabrics which were sold in the Singapore market. In the year 1939 he came into contact with Mr. J.M. Lawrie, with who initiated him in the business of making hand embroidered military badges and church embroideries.

The friendship between Mr. J.M. Lawrie and Mr. J.M. Shafiur Rahman with common initials J.M. led to the formation of the company 'J.M. Shafiur Rahman & Sons' in the year 1940. They started exporting superior quality and finely hand embroidered badges, church vestments and motifs to countries like U.K., and U.S.A.

With only two workers in the inception days, we started spreading the art of embroidery work in Varanasi. With rising popularity and more people joining the trade it took shape of cottage industry.
