Representing a recent development, they consists of a steel pot containing a non-reinforced elastomeric pad. A seal is provided around the pot to keep away dust and moisture from the unit. Over the pad is a silver plate a P.T.F.E sheet is stuck, over which a stainless steel plate slides, providing linear movement. The rubber pad, under high pressure allows a point tilting which is a great advantage over conventional bearings. This property makes POT Bearings the only alternative for multidirectional rotation. Another big advantage is that despite its small size and the small space it occupies, it has very large load bearing capacity.

These are economical, maintenance free and far easier to install than conventional metallic bearings. Elastomeric Bearings are made of synthetic rubber called Neoprene. Fully moulded with no use of adhesive , they confirm of IRC & VIC specifications. Sheets of Neoprene are vulcanised with steel laminations to provide all the properties of a bearing . The elastic properties of the rubber permit all the movements associated with standard bearings . Elastomeric pads are manufactured in completely moulded from and are as per the recommendation of the Ministry of Surface Transport. All raw material is tested before use.

These are the simplest bearing where the upper plate which is attached to the bottom of the girder/ beam slides over another plate. On account of the very large frictional forces involved and lack of provision for beam rotation, this kind of bearing is obviously not very efficient and its use is restricted to 12M of span.

These are ideally suited for balanced cantilever bridges. Line Contact Type Hinge Bearings hitherto used in India, have several problems, viz faster rate of wear of contact surfaces and poor riding quality. J.Sons has used Plane Contact Central Hinge Bearings with Japanese Technology the first time in India for the Ganga Bridge at Varanasi. The Bearings arrangement consists of a pressure pad assembly which is mounted between the two Hinge shoes-male and female attached to either and of cantilever tips. These provide excellent riding characteristics.
