LocationAssam in India has an inspired location on the banks of river Brahmaputra. On this valley Assam produces one of the world’s highest prized and finest wild silk, muga or golden silk as it is popularly known. Naturally rich golden in colour its botanical name is Antherea assama, a caterpillar which feeds on leaves of Som (Machilus bombycina) and Soalu trees (Litsaea polyantha).
A wild caterpillar reared outdoors it produces the beautiful exotic and strongest natural textile fiber known. A traditional industry dating back to ancient times, Muga is exclusive only to Assam and not produced any where in the world.
