Working Principle: - Ultraviolet lies between the visible region and X-ray region in an art electromagnetic spectrum (the range of UV is in between 200 nanometers to 390 nanometers)
- The germicidal action of ultraviolet occurs at 260 nm
- Electrical energy is converted in a low pressure mercury vapor lamp to produce UV artificially
- Flowing of electron, between the electrodes of the lamp, through the ionized mercury vapor produces UV light
- The W light penetrates into the die cell wall of the microorganism and alter their DNA structure; this helps in inhibiting the further reproduction of microorganisms
