About UsOver the years we found that crafts, especially made by hand, have always been devoured by machine made items. And the pangs of pain are borne by naive local artisans who fall prey to them. Its actually the struggle between man versus machine. After lots of research on this issue we found the gap which is formed is because of lack of one simple word - Marketing. Thats where we, Kraftloom Overseas step in and take this pledge to eventually bridge this gap. Our endeavor lies in providing our customers with products - Made by Hand and at the same time extend support to encourage the very craftsmanship of this place. We, with a team of professionals are providing platform to local craftsmen and artisans to promote their art in the international market and facilitate marketing support to producers through promoting their crafts in various national and international trade exhibitions. We have involved ourselves in blending of innate craft techniques with the contemporary designs to give birth to aesthetic products for our todays consumers who are spread across the entire global village. With this we also envisage ourselves as a vehicle to provide a sustained employment and overall development for our craftsman |
About The FounderFrom the immemorial pages of Vedic Scriptures and the literature that has followed down the ages, Himalayas has been a treat to many researchers, mountaineers, pilgrims and many more tourists who flock every year to witness its culture and imbibe its tradition in their lives. This culture is most vibrantly seen in the traditional art that has passed hands from one generation to another. And this art form is best nurtured in the handicrafts and handloom of the state – Uttarakhand. At the same time, within the serene walls of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), were four students – Priyanka Gupta, Mamta Kumari, Pankaj Joshi & Anirban Ghosh doing their MBA in International Business, where they happened to meet Dr. Suresh Malodia who shared a common vision to bring forth the traditional art of the state. Thus grew within them an urge to transform the forgotten art of Uttarakhand and turn it into brand “Kriti” Over the years these students under the guidance of their mentors (Dr. N. Anand & Dr. S. Malodia), found that crafts – especially made by hand, have always been devoured by machine made items. And the pangs of pain are borne by naïve local artisans who fall prey to them. It’s actually the man versus machine. After lot of research on this issue they found the gap which is formed is because of lack of one simple word – “Marketing”. Thus was born “Kraftloom Overseas Pvt. Ltd.” under the umbrella of “ENERGY – the incubation centre of UPES”, with an objective to bridge this gap. The company’s endeavor began in providing the customers with “Made by Hand” products and at the same time extend support to encourage the very craftsmanship of this place. Thus they started to travel extensively into the heart of Uttarakhand – right from Nainital to Almora to Munsiyari in the Kumaon to Srinagar to Uttarkashi in the Garhwal and many more remote areas in search of the craft of the state. It was found that the exclusivecrafts of the state are – Candles, Shawls & Stoles made of Angora, Merino Wool, Pashmina, Cashmere Wool, Cotton & Silk, Antique & Nautical items, Aipan Art, Wooden Handicraft, Chutka & Thulma, Handmade Paper, Bamboo & Natural Fiber products. Also with the continuous support of Mr. S. C. Nautiyal, CEO - Uttarakhand Handloom & Handicraft Development Council (UHHDC), these students participated in the Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair (IHGF, 2011) and thus helped these students transform them into professionals. It was also for the first time that Uttarakhand in terms of its crafts was placed at an international level.
