Penetrometer Apparatus


Penetrometer Apparatus

This apparatus is used for penetration test on a wide variety of materials such as grease, petroleum, bitumen, tar, wax, polish, food stuff, rubber asphalts and pharmaceuticals creams. A given force is applied over a given of a millimeter and expressed as penetration. It consists of a head support mounted on a vertical rod which can be adjusted for height. A rack and pinion and pointer assembly provides fine adjustment of a needle tip to sample and incorporates a slipping clutch mechanism which make reading of penetration and subsequent resetting of a sample and accurate operation. The dial is graduated from 0-400 in on tenth millimeter sub division. The instrument is supplied with two samples containers made of aluminium. The penetration is the distance in millimeter that a standard needle penetrates vertically into a sample of the material under fixed conditions of loading time and temperature. This instrument measures the reading on round dial fitted on a aluminium painted stand having adjustable penetration needle, holder sample container and transfer dish.

Bomb Calorimeter Apparatus


Bomb Calorimeter Apparatus

Bomb calorimeter outfit provide a simple and inexpensive method for determination of heat of combustion of organic matter and the calorific value & sulfur content of solid & liquid fuel. The outfit supplied is complete for analysis as per the method recommended by British Standard Institution . All parts of the outfit have been finished and tested according to the specification laid down by Institute of petroleum and British Standard Institute. It comes with all essential accessories like, Bomb, Calorimeter vessel with bomb support, water jacket, stirrer, electronic firing unit with digital back man thermometer etc

Testing of bomb :
Each bomb is tested before it leaves the factory in accordance with the requirement of the Institute of Petroleum and a works certificate is issued with each Bomb. This certificate gives the results of hydraulic testing under a pressure of 300 atmospheres (4400 p.s.i) maintained for a period of ten minutes without sign of leakage. The maximum deformation must not exceed the specified limits.


Calorimeter Vessel :
The vessel is made of copper and is Chromium plated or S.S. It includes a Bomb support that ensures proper positioning of Bomb in the vessel.


Water Jacket :
The outer container of Jacket is made of copper and is chromium plated both inside and outside or S.S. The is closed by an ebonite cover. A terminal block is fitted to the of the container so that connection can be made from the firing control.


Offset Stirrer :
The stirring mechanism supplied gives sufficient turbulence for effective stirring whilst no heat is imparted to the calorimeter water. It consists of an impeller stirrer driven at a constant speed of approximately 800 r.p.m. The offset arrangement whereby the motor drives the impeller via a belt precludes any possibility of heat transference between motor and calorimeter Vessel Contents.
Electronic Firing Unit with Digital Backman

Thermometer :
For firing a calorimeter Bomb AC supply main (230 Volts 50 Cycles). It consists of two parts Viz Electrical Box and Electronic Box for Digital Thermometer reading. The Electrical Box is provided with socket for stirrer and terminals for the fuse wire. The unit has provision for test of firing wire resistance or open circuit. A left hand side bulb indicate the continuity while right hand side bulb indicates the open circuit (firing).


Crucible :
Various types of crucible are available the standard supplied with the outfit being a stainless steel crucible of 8 ml capacity which fits in the standard support ring provided with the outfit.

Carbon Residue Apparatus (Rams Bottom)

It is used to determine the amount of Carbon deposit when an oil is evaporated under specified condition. The apparatus consists of a solid metal bath having 6 walls to accomodate cocking bulbs with heating elements around the bath the temperature which may be controlled by a Pyrometer depending upon the type supplied , 6 cocking bulbs are supplied with apparatus.

Carbon Residue Apparatus (Conradson)

It is used to determine the amount of carbon deposit when an oil is evaporated under specified condition.The Carbon residue values or crude oil , residue etc. are useful in the manufacture of various lubricants. The Apparatus consists of Spun Sheet Iron Crucible 25cc capacity, sheet iron hood and sheet iron block on a stand with triangular wire bridge.

Copper Strip Corrosion Test Apparatus

Used for detecting the presence of corrosive sulphur in petroleum products. The apparatus consists of a bath either dual purpose (500c & 1000c) or a boiling bath (1000c only) without stainless steel bomb and copper strips of definite size 6 bombs or 18 test tubes can be accomodate in each type of bath with different temperature regulation system to operate on 220 volts ac. Mains.

Reid Vapour Pressure Test Apparatus

Reid Vapour Pressure Test Apparatus

Used to determine the vapour pressure of volatile non-viscous petroleum products except liquified petroleum gases.
the vapour pressure is made up of brass heavily chronium plated and consists of an air chamber and a gasoline chamber of definite dimensions and volume ratio. A pressure gauge of required range is fitted above the air chamber. The joints are made leak proof by neoprene washers. The water bath used is of such dimensions that the vapour pressure bombs may be immersed to at least 1 inch above the air chamber and maintained at a constant temparature range upto 1000c plus minus 20c.
