Quality

All L&T MEDICAL products are a result of extensive in-house research and development. The product designs incorporate embedded systems software from L&T''s CMMI Level 5 certified embedded systems. All it monitors are CE marked, i.e. Conformite Europeenne (conform to European norms) and comply with the highest possible international standards (ISO 13485: 2003 (UL), IEC 1000-4 and IEC 601-1 (EMI/EMC norms compliance). It also has US FDA approval for almost all its monitors, a pre-requisite for pan American exports. L&T Medical''s expansive Mysore Campus was the country''s first ISO 9001-certified, state-of-the-art medical equipment facility with ISO 13485 : 2003, ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001 accreditations.

Infrastructure

A brand new factory was inaugurated by President Operations & Member of the Board, Mr. R.N. Mukhija on October 31, 2009. This new contemporary, environment-friendly manufacturing facility has a built-up area of 6000 sq. m. on a 15-acre plot located closer to L&Ts existing 40-acre Mysore Campus. L&T has invested over Rs.20 crore with a view to scaling up its medical equipment manufacturing capacity and output.

L&T Opens New Manufacturing Facility For Medical Equipment  
Larsen & Toubro, one of India’s major medical equipment manufacturer, opened its new, bigger manufacturing facility for its Medical Equipment & Systems (MED) business here today. The unit was inaugurated by President – Operations & Member of the Board, Mr. R.N. Mukhija.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mukhija said, “L&T has been one of the major players in medical equipment and healthcare sector and this facility will augment MED’s capability for managing the growth of this business. Besides, this investment speaks of L&T’s commitment to addressing the social aspect of healthcare products’ development with its technology strengths.”

MED’s indigenous product range comprises critical care patient monitors, ECG machines, electrosurgical diathermies and ultrasound scanners. At the new facility, MED will launch its new platform products released by its in-house Design Team at different price points covering the bottom of the pyramid segment largely catered by the Chinese imports to the top segment addressing the corporate hospitals. 

The new facility’s assembly area has been designed on the principles of lean manufacturing for facilitating optimal utilization of resources.

The facility would also fortify the infrastructure for design & development, quality & reliability evaluation of products, EMI/EMC testing facilities for ensuring high level of immunity to electrical noise and thus enable it to continue bringing out ‘category winner' products.

The facility has been designed for providing environment-friendly manufacturing set up such as rain water harvesting, sewage treatment plant for reducing water consumption and ample green cover. The building has been designed so as to retain the original land contour.
