Engineering Design and Research Centre (EDRC) of ECC offers comprehensive engineering, design and consultancy services from concept to commissioning for a variety of projects covering Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Public Health.

Specialised Competency Cells in various fields support project execution teams at different stages and also impart relevant training and orientation to staff and workmen, to attain seamless execution of projects involving multi-disciplinary activities.

Nuclear Power Projects are considered as amongst the key sustainable energy projects of the future. Starting from 1970, when it took up the construction of the reactor and turbine buildings for MAPP, ECC has been continuously involved in the various projects of Department of Atomic Energy and has positioned itself for greater growth in the coming years. Construction of projects in Space and Defence fields are also undertaken.

ECC has the capability to construct critical and complex structures for Nuclear Power Plants, Space & Defence projects covering all civil and mechanical works to exacting quality standards.

L&T develops grid-linked independent Power Plant and Cogeneration and Captive Power Plants on Build-Owen-Operate (BOO), Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT), Build-Lease-Operate (BLO). build-Lease-Operate (BLO). Build -Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) basis.

Activities:

• Identification of new opportunities for grid-connected & captive power plants.
• Evaluation of risks and strategies for mitigation of these risks.
• Ensurig various clearances.
• Evaluation of varios financing structures.
• Arranging the requisite financial package for investment.
• Establishing partnering relationship with existing power plants to set up joint ventures with equity participation - with or without reconstruction.

Projects Executed:

• 116 naphtha -fire combined cycle cogeneration power plant, on BOO basis, to generate 116 MW of power and 480 TPH of process steam, for Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, Haldia.
• 90 MW naphtha/natural-gas-fired cogeneration power plant, on BLO basis, to deliver 90 MW of power and 240 TPH of process steam, for Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited, Gandhar.
