Ampicilin 250mg

Ampicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that has been used extensively to treat bacterial infections since 1961. Until the introduction of ampicillin by the British company, Beecham, penicillin therapies had only been effective against Gram-positive organisms such as Staphylococci and Streptococci. Ampicillin (originally branded as 'Penbritin') also demonstrated activity against Gram-negative organisms such as H. influenzae, coliforms and Proteus spp. Ampicillin was the first of a number of so-called broad spectrum penicillins subsequently introduced by Beecham. Ampicillin is part of the aminopenicillin family and is roughly equivalent to its successor, amoxicillin in terms of spectrum and level of activity[1]. It can sometimes result in non-allergic reactions that range in severity from a rash (e.g., patients with mononucleosis) to potentially lethal anaphylaxis. However, as with other penicillin drugs, it is relatively non-toxic and adverse effects of a serious nature are encountered only infrequent).

Azithromycin is used to treat or prevent certain bacterial infections, most often those causing middle ear infections, tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, Typhoid, and sinusitis. In recent years it has primarily been used to prevent bacterial infections in infants and those with weaker immune systems. It is also effective against certain urinary tract infections, such as non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis. Recent studies have also indicated it to be effective against late-onset asthma, but these findings are controversial and not widely accepted.

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic considered to be a second-generation fluoroquinolone. Floxin (branded version) had been discontinued by the manufacturer, in the United States, effective June 18, 2009, though generic equivalents continue to be available.

Ofloxacin is a racemic mixture, which consists of 50% levofloxacin (the biologically active component) and 50% of its “mirror image” or enantiomer dextrofloxacin. When levofloxacin disks were not available in early clinical trials, a 5-pg Floxin (ofloxacin –floxacin) disk was substituted. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) medical reviewers considered the two drugs to be one and the same and hence interchangeable.

Like other quinolones, ofloxacin has been associated with a significant number of serious adverse drug reactions, such as tendon damage (including spontaneous tendon ruptures) and peripheral neuropathy (which may be irreversible); such reactions may manifest long after therapy had been completed, and, in severe cases, may result in life-long disabilities.Ofloxacin has also been associated with severe psychiatric adverse reactions.

Hepatotoxicity has also been reported with the use of ofloxacin.Case reports of hepatitis have been published for the older fluoroquinolones including ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, and norfloxacin.

Cefixime: It is bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotic (such as penicillins). Cefixime disrupt the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls. The peptidoglycan layer is important for cell wall structural integrity. The final transpeptidation step in the synthesis of the peptidoglycan is facilitated by transpeptidases known as penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). PBPs bind to the D-Ala-D-Ala at the end of muropeptides (peptidoglycan precursors) to crosslink the peptidoglycan.

Ofloxacin: Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV, which is an enzyme necessary to separate replicated DNA, thereby inhibiting cell division. The fluoroquinolones interfere with DNA replication by inhibiting an enzyme complex called DNA gyrase. This can also affect mammalian cell replication.

Recent studies have demonstrated a correlation between mammalian cell cytotoxicity of the quinolones and the induction of micronuclei. As such some fluoroquinolones may cause injury tothe chromosome of eukaryotic cells.

Ciprofloxacin is a drug used to treat bacterial infections. It is a second generation fluoroquinolone antibacterial. It kills bacteria by interfering with the enzymes that cause DNA to rewind after being copied, which stops DNA and protein synthesis.

Ciprofloxacin is marketed worldwide with over three hundred different brand names. In the United States, Canada and the UK, it is marketed as Ciloxan, Cipro, Cipro XR, Cipro XL Ciproxin and, most recently, Proquin. In Mexico it is available over the counter and marketed under the names Ciproflox or Ciprofloxacino. In Ecuador it is available and marketed under the name Cidrax. In Nigeria it is sold as Ciprotab while in Bangladesh it is marketed as Tablets and Microcapsules for Suspension by numerous companies, one of which is by Edruc Limited as Cipron. Additionally, ciprofloxacin is available as a generic drug under a variety of different brand names and is also available for limited use in veterinary medicine.

Ciprofloxacin was first patented in 1983 by Bayer A.G. and subsequently approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1987.Ciprofloxacin has 12 F.D.A.-approved human uses and other veterinary uses, but it is often used for non-approved uses (off-label).

Ciprofloxacin interacts with other drugs, herbal and natural supplements, and thyroid medications.

Sulbactam is able to inhibit the most common forms of beta-lactamase but is not able to interact with the ampC cephalosporinase. Thus, it confers little protection against bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, and Serratia, which often express this gene.

In the United States, sulbactam is combined to form cefoperazone/sulbactam and ampicillin/sulbactam. It does possess some antibacterial activity when administered alone, but it is too weak to have any clinical importance. Its use in the UK is restricted to hospitals.

PharmacodynamicsPharmacokinetics

Vancomycin, a glycopeptide antibiotic, is used in the treatment of severe staphylococcal or other gram positive infections where other drugs cannot be used due to resistance or intolerance. It prevents the transfer and addition of muramylpentapeptide building blocks that make up the peptidoglycan molecule thus inhibiting formation of peptidoglycan polymers of the bacterial cell wall. It is active aginst Staphylococci eg, S. aureus, S. epidermidis, S. pneumoniae, Str. pyrogenes and some strains of Group B streptococci, Clostridium difficile, Actinomyces species, Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium species, some lactobacilli and Listeria species. Vancomycin demostrates concentration-independent or time dependent killing.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Colomycin can be used to treat chest infections in people who have cystic fibrosis when these are due to a bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Colomycin is usually given to these patients by inhalation (nebulisation). That is, they breathe in droplets of Colomycin solution as a fine spray and the droplets enter the lungs to reach the places where the bacteria are causing infection. Colomycin is sometimes given as a solution into a vein in order to treat serious infections due to certain types of bacteria. These infections include some pneumonias and some infections of the bladder and kidneys. Colomycin is not often used to treat these types of infections but may be used when other antibiotics that are commonly used for these infections are not suitable for some reason. For example, if the person who is infected is allergic to many other types of antibiotics or if the bacteria are resistant to many of these other antibiotics.

Prulifloxacin is chemically described, 1H, 4H. (1,3) Thiazeto (3,2-a) quinoline-3-carboxylic acid, 6-fluoro-1-methyl-7-(4-(5-methyl-2-oxo-1, 3-dioxol-4- yl) methyl)-1-piperazinyl)-4-oxo-(+-)-7-(4-((z)-2,3-Dihydroxy-2-butenyl)-1-piperazinyl)-6-fluoro-1-methyl-4-oxo- 1H, 4H-(1,3) thiazeto(3,2-a) quinoline. Prulifloxacin, the prodrug of ulifloxacin, is a broad-spectrum oral fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent. It is a lipophilic prodrug of ulifloxacin and prevents becterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination by inhibiting, bacteria DNA gyrase. Microbiology: Prulifloxacin is generally more active in vitro than other fluoroquinolones against a variety of clinical isolates of Gram-negative bacteria, including community and nosocomial isolates of Escherichia coli Klebsiella spp., Proteus, Providencia, Morganella, Moraxella catarrhalls and Haemophilus spp.Gram-positive organisms, including methicillin-or oxacillin susceptible staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus spp. and community isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae are susceptible to Prulifloxacin (prodrug of Prulifloxacin). Pharmacokinetics : Oral prulifloxacin is a prodrug and is rapidly and extensively metabolized to ulifloxacin, the pharmacokinetics of oral prulifloxacin have been determined by evaluating plasma and urine concentrations of ulifloxacin.
