Happenings / News / Press CoverageTraditionally, a textile player, the LNJ (Laxmi Niwas Jhunjhunwala) Bhilwara Group began diversification of its business operations only in the late 1970s. Mr. LN Jhunjhunwala, a first generation businessman, managed to acquire licenses for making graphite with an initial investment of Rs14 crore in the name of HEG. This was started in technical collaboration with Societies Des Electrodes Et Refractaires Savoie (SERS), a subsidiary of Pechiney of France. Today, the Rs 3600 crore conglomerate takes pride in HEG as globally reputed company counted amongst the top eight manufacturers of graphite in the world. HEG, a Rs 1,150 crore enterprise is a leading player in the Asian markets and exports over 80% of its products across 30 worldwide locations. It is involved in supply of graphite electrodes to leading steel manufactures, both domestic and global including Thyssenkrupp, ArcelorMittal, Nucor, Tata Iron and Steel, SAIL and Essar.
Quality Policy / Processes If the Group has flourished like a banyan tree, then quality has been its bedrock. Right from the inception of the Group, it has been focused on setting its own benchmarks for quality. This attitude towards quality has reaped rich dividends for the Group, as reflected in its stellar performance across functions and businesses. Compliance with globally accepted international certifications and standards, like BVQI and ISO is not an achievement but an imperative. These have come the Group’s way for not just quality control but also processes, ERP implementation, environmental standards etc. In addition to this, the Group also conformed to the stringent standards demanded by individual clients like Arcelor-Mittal, Posco, Krupp Thyssen, Nucore, Marks & Spencer, Wal-Mart and other global giants. And this is manifested in its outreach with exports from the Group touching all five continents. Peer validation from the industry has further substantiated Group’s stand on quality across the board, ranging from awards for productivity and exports, like the CAPEXIL, which HEG has bagged for 18 consecutive years, the SRTEPC Excellence Award which RSWM has been winning for the past 17 years and many more.
