This oil remains stable at high temperatures so that a small short or arc will not cause a breakdown or fire. Windings of large power transformers are immersed in Insulating oil to provide high dielectric strength, high insulation resistance, high flash point, freedom from moisture, and freedom from oxidization. This oil is liable to absorb unacceptable contaminants due to development of ageing products, moisture, gas, acidity during service of transformer. But this can be recycled many times and returned to its original condition by sophisticated High vacuum Transformer's insulating mineral oil purification & regeneration plant.
