About UsLike every Maini Group company, Maini Plastics and Composites Pvt. Ltd. (MPC) was born to meet a challenge, address a need and provide a solution thereby furthering the Maini legacy, to enrich community and environmental wellbeing.
When The Maini Group decided to launch REVA, India’s first electric car, one key sourcing requirement was aesthetically and dimensionally critical, body exterior and interior parts. These had to be vacuum-formed.
At the time, vacuum-forming was used in India for mainly two
product categories: PVC thin film grade for packaging FMCG and, to a lesser extent, a heavier gauge for automobile accessories like spare wheel covers and minor vehicle interior trims.
And so to supply the REVA project, in 2001 the Group started a new vacuum-forming division. This initiative substantially extended the options available for the process in the country and thus created another world-class Maini manufacturing facility.
The success of this plastics division, first in supplying REVA
and then other clients in the automotive and non-automotive sectors, led to the formation of MPC in April 2010. |
InfrastructureLEADING EDGE PROCESS
MPC sustains the Group’s lead in the vacuum-forming industry,and also initiate allied niche plastic processing and expand into the field of composites.
Design
Our design capabilities cover process, product and equipment including tools and patterns.
Our design capability for part-to-tool design conversion is compatible with a spectrum of software platforms. Input CAD data can be direct part files in Pro-E, Catia, IGES or STEP.
Tool design is either in-house or vendor-sourced by our Design Department as a part of its overall responsibility. NC code generation for the router is completely done in-house.
PROTO SAMPLING AND PATTERNING
Wooden patterns for quick proto-part development are CNC-machined.The router can handle patterns measuring 10 feet x 5 feet X 600 mm.Since it is a five-axis machine, under-cuts are easily generated.
The Sample goes to client for process and product integration testing and approval.
ROUTING
At MPC parts are trimmed using trim fixtures with trim guides, an innovation developed in-house.
As order volumes grew, so did the need for faster cycle times. MPC switched to five -axis CNC trimming on routers for which all the requisite part-holding fixtures have been developed in-house.
Programming is also completely in-house.
VACUUM - FORMING
We deploy the latest vacuum-forming machines, the largest having a capacity of 2.5m x 1.5m All machines are PLC-controlled, with sandwich heating, pre-blow facility, plug assists, sheet temperture sensors and blow sensors among othere features.
PAINT BOOTH
Our ultramodern paint booth for car exterior paneling offers a Class A surface finish to ensure a world-class appearance.
Equipped with 5 micron filters for optimal environmental impact, it offers a positive down draft with powerful suction blowers. In use is a high quality polyurethane-based paint system which can customize applications to customer specification.
