On August 5, 2005 the management team of Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems, Inc. completed the purchase of the subsidiary from Monsanto. The name of the company was formally changed to MECS, Inc. at this time. In January of 2008, MECS was sold to American Securities, a private equity firm based in New York. MECS has agreed with Abengoa, S.A. of Seville, Spain to the creation of an independent joint venture company named ABENCS. The joint venture will be located in St. Louis, MO U.S.A. and focused on executing engineering and construction of ethanol, biodiesel and other alternative energy producing facilities. ABENCS will be staffed with detail engineering, procurement and construction teams transferred from the MECS organization in the U.S.A. Abengoa is a technology company providing innovative solutions for sustainable development in infrastructures, environment and energy.
