Marine Electronics And Navigation Systems (MEANS) started its operation as a partnership firm in the year 1985 at Mumbai, India. The company initially concentrated its activities to design and development of Marine Electronics products. It successfully developed products like Power Inverters, Battery Chargers, Engine Monitoring & Control Systems, D.G. Set Auto Start-Stop (AMF) system, Temperature Monitoring Systems, Shaft RPM & Direction Indicating Systems, Torsionmeter, Electronic Engine Order Telegraph Systems and many others.
The company also developed a VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit) Tester specially for EPABX manufacturers. In the year 1987, the company received a recognition from Directorate of Warship Projects under the Ministry of Defense as a development agency. The company diversified its operation in the year 1992 and entered into the field of providing professional repair facilities to the Shipping Industry. The company soon carved a niche for itself especially in the field of marine automation. With the strong R & D back bone, the company soon emerged as a solution provider for the shipping companies.
In the year 1995 the company decided to expand its service base by getting into acquiring overseas company representations to act as an authorized sales and service agent. Today the company represents many a world renown companies and covers the entire range of navigation, communication, cargo monitoring and handling, pollution controls, and Safety products. The company has a trained work force of about 60 personnel with well equipped service centers at Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and Kolkata. It also has immediate plan to start operation at other major ports like Port Blair and Tuticorin.

The company acquired an ISO 9001:1994 accreditation in the year 2000 encompassing its entire operation of design, development, manufacturing, sales, services, installation and commissioning. The company recently upgraded its Quality Management System to ISO 9001:2000.
Infrastructural Facilities
The Company besides having well equipped workshop near Mumbai, at Vasai ; has Office cum Service Center in close proximity to Dock area to cater for emergency services to the vessels calling on Mumbai Port. Further the Company has Branch offices at Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and Kolkata to provide efficient services. The Office cum Service Center is equipped with latest communication equipment including computer network, fax, modems , VHF communication sets etc. to look after day to day activities effectively. All our Engineers are linked with mobile phones to provide round the clock service to customer.
Manufacturing Facility
The company started its manufacturing unit in the year 1984 with the intention to fill a void existed, then in India ,to design, develop and manufacture sophisticated marine equipment. As a result of its sole endeavors, the company has been successful in developing some of the equipment of International quality, such as TORSIONOMETERS, SHAFT SPEED AND DIRECTION MONITORING SYSTEMS. These systems have been supplied to some of the valued clients such as the INDIAN NAVY, COAST GUARD, major SHIP-BUILDING YARDS etc.

MEANS Service division provide 24X7 services to all its customers on board vessels visiting Indian Ports. We are a registered workshop with all major Port Trust Authorities as well as major ship owners. Our engineers are trained and equipped to deal with most of the ship equipment and are ready to attend to service calls with a short notice. Our offices and engineers are linked through modern communication system to arrange and deal with urgent requirement of vessels. MEANS PVT. LTD. made a big splash at INMEX 2003 , India International Maritime Expo 2003,held at Cross Maidan, Churchgate from 8th - 11th October 2003.
India International Maritime Expo 2003, the second in the series of exhibitions is designed to highlight India's Maritime achievements. More than 200 exhibitors form 26 different countries took part and MEANS PVT. LTD. was one of those who received the honour to participate in the exhibition.
