Pilger mill is a metalworking process in which metal is disfigured by passing it through rollers at a temperature below its recrystallization temperature. Pilger milling increases the yield strength and hardness of a metal by introducing defects into the metal's crystal structure. Meraj Engineering is also supplying a spinner block for drawing of copper tubes. With the new machine concept it is possible to locate the operator’s workstation outside of the basket conveyor system. This results in greatly improved mobility and safety of the operator.

A further advantage of the new construction is the space saving layout of the machine. The structure of the spinner block is highly compact. Spinner block and decoiler are positioned on a solid base frame.

Significant portions of the production sequence have been fully automated by this new development. The pointing of the copper tubes is automated and the processes for dimpling, lubrication and mandrel positioning are automated as well. As an option feeding and clamping of the tubes can be done with a tube handling system.
