Compression moulding is a method of moulding in which the moulding material, generally preheated, is first placed in an open, heated mould cavity. The mould is closed with a top force or plug member, pressure is applied to force the material into contact with all mould areas, and heat and pressure are maintained until the moulding material has cured.

The injection moulds are available in various forms and sizes, which are widely used in manufacture of automobile rubber, plastic components. Transfer moulding, like compression moulding, is a process where the amount of moulding material (usually a thermoset plastic) is measured and inserted before the moulding takes place. The moulding material is preheated and loaded into a chamber known as the pot. A plunger is then used to force the material from the pot through channels known as a sprue and runner system into the moulded cavities.
