Handling & Installation Instructions For Century Stopper Heads And Nozzles
TCentury Stopper Heads and Nozzles are bonded with Phenolic Resins, and the carbon Bond holds the entire matrix of the composite. A secondary bonding takes over as the stopper head comes in contact with the molten metal, increasing the strength many folds. Temperature provides the final strength of the body to resist running, leakage and spalling of the refractory.
INSTALLATION
Do not over tighten the insert /or screw rod when fixing the same. This can result in the cracking of the stopper head / and the insert or damaging the threads.
The filling compound or Paste used, removes all the air from inside the stopper, when the screw rod/insert is tightened.
This water based filling compound is dried during the preheat process.
Do not scratch or damage the surface of the head.
During assembly of Stopper head with the sleeves, please use minimal amount of paste, the excess water is dried up during pre-heating of stopper assembly.
* Working capacity is calculated with a free board of approximately 6", 150mm * Manufacturing Tolerance +/- 3% * With the exception of TPC 747 the above crucibles have a base of recess. Depth 7/16", 11 mm, Dia. 3.125", 79mm.
* Standard spout length is 5.3/4", 146 mm except for TPC 587 which is 7 1/4", 184 mm. * Working capacity is calculated with a free board of approximately 3", 75 mm. * Manufacturing Tolerance +/- 3%
* With the exception of TPC 540 and TPC 740 the above crucibles have a base recess. Depth 7/16", 11 mm, Dia. 3 1/8", 79 mm. * Standard spout length is 5 3/4", 146 mm. * Working capacity is calculated with a free board of approximately 3", 75 mm * Manufacturing tolerance +/- 3%
Century crucibles are self-glazing; this means that a glaze is constituted with the body. When the crucible is heated, the crucible body appears to exist in 2 physical forms. one being in the solid state , this portion is called the skeleton of the crucible and mainly consisting of silicon carbide and natural crystalline graphite . These materials remain in the sold state through out the service life of the crucible. These two components provide the abrasion and thermal strengths which are required to withstand the hazards of foundry practice .The crucible is physically handled in the hot condition when it holds the molten metal and it also provided the medium through which heat is transferred via the crucible body to the metal/alloy. This is very good both with natural crystalline graphite and silicon carbide both being ideally suited for this application.
The second part of the crucible is the one that goes into the liquid phase when the crucible is heated and goes back into the solid state when the crucible comes back to room temperature. This part is what is called the glaze component. This serves two very important aspects (a) on the outside of the crucible- there is temperature, oxygen (more in electric resistance furnaces and lesser in oil/gas fired furnaces) it prevents the oxidation of the crucible skeleton and the bond which in the case of Century crucibles is a carbon bond by the use of Phenolic resins. Carbon can easily be oxidized to its oxides, the amorphous carbons oxidize much faster than the crystalline /glassy carbons –here again the resins give a much more sustainable property to the product. (b) On the inside of the crucible there are molten metal and dissolved gases and the effect of fluxes. Which today do the melters for all applications use. The glaze which are used by us on and in Century crucibles have a predefined properties to combat these hazardous effects, which always have pronounced effects on the service life of the crucible. Our glazes, which are incorporated within the crucible making it a self-glazing crucible and suitable over, a wide range of temperature.
