Moreover due to their light weight and space saving properties compared to the conventional round cables, they are increasingly being used for car electronics. tesa is one of the leading world market suppliers in wire harnessing tapes. New car models are often equipped with the new generation of FFC/FPC and fixed with one of the tapes from the tesa® range on their head-liners. Nevertheless, also wires can be mounted with tesa® cable mounting tapes. The new flat cables, FFC and FPC, allow more electrical design freedom in comparison to the conventional round cable technology.

On the headliner and door interior, there are several meters of FFC/FPC between the car roof and the inner lining. The FFC/FPCs are applied by a single sided adhesive tape which fixes and simultaneously protects them against abrasion. The new tesa® 54900 works differently, for example, tesa® 54900 is applied to the headliner and the wire or FFC/FPC is pressed onto the double-sided tape. Only at places where the wires have contact with other parts bearing the risk of abrasion or at direction changes are they covered additionally with single-sided adhesive tapes.

Round and FFC/FPC can be securely and safely mounted onto a headliner with tesa system solutions. One feature of tesa® 54900 is that it can be applied with a specially designed dispenser. The dispenser requires no blade because the adhesive tape is pre-die cut. Additionally, the dispenser rewinds the liner directly after application of the tape.
