lan and Lorraine Roby produced their first dog roll in Ruawai, New Zealand. A butcher by trade, lan had recognised the growing problem of hydatids through feeding unooked meat to dogs, He created the dog roll as a safer, heal thier altenative.

on fridays, lan travelled to Auckland, where he sold his product to butchers and small markets. By 1964 they were producing 300 dog rolls per week.
