We hold expertise in the designing and fabrication of Desalination Reverse Osmosis Systems, which is based on a separation process used for reducing dissolved salt content of saline water to usable level. All desalination processes provided in the plants involve three liquid streams: - Saline feed water
- Low-salinity product water
- Very saline concentrate
The saline feed water is drawn from open sea/underground beach well sources and is separated by desalination process into two output streams: - Low-salinity product water
- Very saline concentrate streams
The use of desalination also helps in overcoming the task of using sea water for drinking water purposes. Features:
- The product water of desalination process is generally water that has less than 500 mg/1 dissolved solids
- Suitable for most domestic, industrial as well as agricultural uses
Technical Description – - In RO process, water from pressurized saline solution is separated from dissolved salts by making it flow through a water-permeable membrane
- The permeate (Liquid flowing through membrane) is encouraged to flow through membrane by pressure differential created between pressurized feed water as well as the product water (Which is at near-atmospheric pressure)
- The remaining feed water continues through pressurized side of reactor as brine
- Major energy requirement is for initial pressurization of feed water
- For brackish water desalination, operating pressures range from 250 to 400 psi
- For seawater desalination is from 800 to 1000 PSI
Our reverse osmosis systems consist of four major components/processes:
- Pre-treatment
- Pressure boosting
- Membrane separation
- Post-treatment stabilization
Pre-treatment:
The incoming feed water is pre-treated to make it compatible with membranes by adjusting the pH, removing suspended solids as well as adding threshold inhibitor to control scaling caused by constituents like calcium sulphate. Pressure Boosting:
- The pump raises pressure of pre-treated feed water to operating pressure appropriate for membrane as well as salinity of feed water
- We also use Energy Recovery Devices that are used in tandem with Pressure Boosters so as to cut down the energy costs
Separation:
- The permeable membrane stops passage of dissolved salts while permitting desalinated product water to pass through
- Applying feed water to membrane assembly also results in freshwater product stream as well as concentrated brine reject stream
- As no membrane is perfect in its rejection of dissolved salts, small percentage of salt passes through membrane & remains in product water
- Reverse osmosis membranes also come in a variety of configurations (Most common being Thin Film Composite)
Post Treatment:
The product water from membrane assembly usually requires pH adjustment & degasification before being transferred to distribution system for use as drinking water. The disinfection is also done if water is being used for drinking purposes. |
