The horizontal instrument construction offers specific advantages, especially for the dual sample arrangement: homogeneous heating of both samples, simple sample insertion, safety during sample decomposition or melting, and effective protection of the measuring system by gas flow. 



DIL 402 PC - Horizontal pushrod dilatometer


The newly developed DIL 402 PC dilatometer combines easy operation, high adaptability to different applications and outstanding performance in one instrument.
The optimized design of the measurement system with inductive transducer offers a high degree of reproducibility even without an external chiller.

The horizontal design with easy to move furnace makes it simple to place samples into the large recess of the tube-type sample carrier, even with less than ideal sample geometries. A thermocouple in direct proximity to the sample yields reproducible temperature measurement. This also allows use of the c-DTA® Software for calculation of endothermic and exothermic effects in the sample as well as determination of all the characteristic expansion values.

The interchangeable furnaces with temperature ranges up to 1200°C and 1600°C serve varied applications for expansion control in solids in the areas of quality and production control.

When it comes to determination of the linear thermal expansion in solids, liquids, powders and pastes as well as ceramic fibers, the DIL 402 C vacuum-tight pushrod dilatometer leaves no measurement problem unsolved.
The perfect design of the Invar measurement system with its high-resolution displacement transducer and comprehensive thermostatic control offers the highest degree of accuracy, reproducibility and long-term stability for application temperatures up to 2000°C.

The horizontal design with motorized pushrod and easy to move furnace make it simple to place samples on the special sample supports in the recess of the tube-type sample carrier, even with less than ideal sample geometries. A thermocouple in direct proximity to the sample yields reproducible temperature measurement. This also allows use of the c-DTA® Software for calculation of endothermic and exothermic effects in the sample as well as determination of all the characteristic expansion values.

The interchangeable furnaces with temperature ranges from -180°C to a maximum of 2000°C cover all applications for high-precision expansion control in high-tech ceramic and metallic materials within the scope of material development and basic research as well as quality and production control.
For safe handling of sensitive samples, the DIL 402 C dilatometer can also be supplied in a modified form for installation in a glovebox.

The measuring system employs two high resolution inductive displacement transducers; with its design using low-expansion invar and broad thermostatic control for highest accuracy, reproducibility and long term stability, it is capable of application temperatures up to 2000°C

The horizontal instrument construction offers specific advantages, especially for the dual sample arrangement: homogeneous heating of both samples, simple sample insertion, safety during sample decomposition or melting, and effective protection of the measuring system by gas flow. The operation remains simple and safe through exact sample arrangement at the specific sample support in the cutout of the tube sample support, the individual motorized movement and zero setting of both push rods and the easy to move furnace. Various furnace systems allow optimal adjustment at specific measuring tasks.

The sample temperature measurement is carried out reproducibly with a thermocouple in
the center of the sample arrangement.

Routine measurements with high sample throughput and accurate comparison measurements
are two further important application fields of this new dual- and differential dilatometer.

The DIL 402 E dilatometer can be operated to 2400°C or 2800°C with the appropriate graphite furnace; optical pyrometers are applied for temperature measurement and control. In this mode, high-temperature resistant samples are tested in glass carbon sample holders under inert atmosphere or vacuum.


Operation to 2000°C is also possible using thermocouples for temperature measurement and control.


Graphite materials, high-temperature ceramics and refractory metals are among the application areas for this versatile, modular high-temperature dilatometer.

GST 420 PC - Glaze Stress Tester


Separate measurement of the expansion behavior of ceramic bodies and the glaze cannot record the effects of interactions and formation of intermediate layers that occur in practice. In the GST 420 PC glaze stress tester, a glazed rod is subjected to stress during heating and cooling and the bending that results is recorded. The direction and extent of bending make it possible to estimate the tensile and compressive stress and to define the temperature ranges over which pronounced changes in the state of stress occur during firing of a glazed ceramic.
The application is the same for enameled metal articles.


The target applications for the GST 420 PC glaze stress tester are primarily in production control for glazed ceramic articles and associated glaze processing.
