Florida’s minimum wage will increase from $7.25 to $7.35 per hour, effective June 1.

A Leon County circuit judge ruled that the state violated the Florida Constitution by failing to raise the minimum wage Jan. 1 to reflect an increase in the cost of living last year.

The judge ruled that the minimum wage can never be decreased and ordered the 6-cent increase based on calculations set out in the state constitution. National Employment Law Project and Florida Legal Services sued the state in January for failing to raise the minimum wage as required by the constitution to keep pace with inflation.
