Know Nirula's

Nirula's, a well-known name in the hospitality industry, had like all success stories a small beginning. The Nirula's Family came to Delhi in 1928. The Nirula brothers before going into the Hotel and Food Service Industry tried their hand at various professions including running a pharmacy, optician shop and a photo studio.

However, they soon realized the paucity of good eating-places in and around New Delhi. Though completely new to the business, they began "HOTELINDIA" in 1934 at Connaught Place with 12 rooms, a restaurant and a bar license.

The starting of the 'Chinese Room' Restaurant and introduction of espresso coffee for the first time in India by Nirula's was done in the 1950's. The 60's witnessed the opening of two specialty restaurants, La Boheme a modern restaurant serving Hungarian food & Gufa an Indian specialty restaurant. The 70s saw the company venture into the fast food business with the Pastry Shop, Snack Bar, Hot Shoppe and Ice Cream Parlour. The Potpourri restaurant with the first Salad Bar in India was also opened in this period.

The eventful decades of 1980s & 1990s saw the opening of the Central Kitchen and Family Style Restaurants at Vasant Vihar, Chanakya, Defence Colony, Noida and numerous other strategic locations in the NCR.

Today, the Noida production facilities include the Bakery, Confectionery, Cheese Plant, Ice cream Plant, Food Processing Unit and Hot Kitchen.

Nirula's has widened its presence in North India with the opening of restaurants in Panipat, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Meerut and Pathankot. Association with Indian Oil Corporation in 2005 witnessed the opening of new Outlets at fuel stations at Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh, Janakpuri, Gurgaon and Chandigarh. Nirula’s also has a National tie-up with HPCL and has opened projects in Delhi, Jaipur, Pathankot and will be opening another outlet in Behror (Delhi-Jaipur Highway) in the coming year.

In June 2006, Navis Capital Partners and Managing Director, Samir Kuckreja acquired the Nirula's Group of Companies.

After the acquisition, a new senior management team was created by drawing the best talent in the industry. The new team at Nirula's undertook a massive brand revamp exercise. While retaining the brand name and logo of "Nirula's", new sub-brand logos were created for Nirula's ice-creams, Pastry Shop, delivery business and others.

New graphics, logos, menu panels and packaging were created by well-known designer Ms. Gopika Chowfla. Interior and exterior designs were created by Ambrish Arora of Lotus Designs. New staff uniforms were created by the famous fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla.

Changes were also made to the service design by placing female Guest Response Executives (GRE) in outlets. But the Nirula's Group retained the USP of the brand in terms of wide menu choices and affordable prices.

Our Restaurant Formats

At Nirula's we put our customers first and to make the brand more accessible, we have created new formats which maximize our penetration among consumer groups. Besides Family Style and Casual Dining Restaurants, Nirula's now also has more compact formats which range from between 100 to 400 sq. feet and are perfectly tailored to fit high traffic locations. These formats include Express outlets, Fuel Station Units and Ice cream kiosks. The menu includes quick bites, value meals, snacks, savouries, beverages and the famous Nirula's Ice Cream range, with a focus on quick service and convenience. Nirula's new Retail Formats are located primarily in malls, transit locations, highways and large commercial complexes making the brand more accessible for consumers.

Samir Kuckreja
Samir Kuckreja is the CEO & Managing Director of Nirula’s Corner House Private Limited. He has done a BA Economics degree from St. Stephens College, Delhi and a BS in Hotel Administration from Cornell University, USA.

Samir has over 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He started his career with the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia, USA. He worked at Nirula’s in Delhi for 9 years and looked after Operations, Business Development and Marketing during his stint. He was the Business Development Manager for the Indian Subcontinent with Yum Restaurants in New Delhi for three and a half years and was responsible for setting up over 70 Pizza Hut and KFC restaurants in 4 countries. He was the Joint Managing Director of Mars Hotels & Restaurants for close to two years and was responsible for their Hotels, Restaurants and Cake Shops.

Ajay Khanna
Vice President - Operations
Ajay completed his Diploma in Hotel Management from Pusa, New Delhi in 1986 and a B.Com Degree from Delhi University in 1987. He has also completed his certification as Internal Auditor for ISO 9001 from LRQA and has obtained ‘Train the Trainer’ certification for Hotel Operations from ITDC. Ajay has 20 years of rich experience in the hospitality and retail industry with reputed names such as Reliance Industries Limited, ITDC, Apollo Hospitals, and Amoretto’s Retail. He has also worked with Somprasong Land Public Co. Ltd in Bangkok.

Sanjay Sachdeva
Director – Business Development & Projects
Sanjay completed B.E (Mechanical Engineering) from Bangalore University in 1989, Diploma in Marketing Management from IGNOU in 1993, MBA with specialization in Operations from IGNOU in 1998 and PG Diploma in Construction Management from Delhi Productivity Council. He joined Nirula’s with 17 years of experience with Jupiter-No Break Systems (P) Ltd, New Delhi; Modern Food Industries (I) Ltd, New Delhi; Domino’s Pizza India Limited, New Delhi and Devyani International Limited.

Nirula's acts as an Agent of Change
As part of our vision here at Nirula's we have been continuously committed to improving the quality of life of our workforce, their families, our local community and society at large. From time to time we have undertaken various CSR initiatives and carried out community projects. Nirula's stands for integrity, best practices and most importantly for being a proactive agent of change.

  • In the past we have partnered with the NGO - Salaam Balak Trust and worked with homeless youth.
  • The Scholar's Club Award is an ongoing CSR exercise which rewards scholarly achievement among children. Run between the months of April and May, it offers students who have scored above 90% marks in the academic year a free Triple Sundae / HCF.
  • The Birthday Club program offers a free Ice Cream Scoop to any child who signs up for it on their birthday.
Tie-Up with Khushii : Nirula's tied up with the NGO Khushii last year to support the educational programs they run for school children in Delhi and NCR. To raise funds for Khushii's developmental projects. Nirulas’ raises funds for Khushii through various innovation ways like Nirula's last year held an Art Auction at its Potpourri Restaurant and raised a large sum for Khushii Kids. Nirula’s regularly organizes event to raise funds for Khushii.
