2) Paint Driers

Primary Driers (Or Active Driers)
These are organometalic compounds of Cobalt & Manganese, which have the highest catalytic activity and most pronounced accerlating effect on film formation. Primary driers are known as surface or skin driers since in the oxidizable vehicles, Cobalt or Manganese when used alone, will cause the surface of the film to rapidly set to a near solid while the underlying film does not reach this advanced state of oxidation. This uneven hardening will, in thick films, cause the defect known as wrinkling.

Secondary Driers (Or Auxiliary Driers):
These are compounds of Lead, Calcium, Zinc, Zirconium, Iron, Cerium, while they possess a much lower level of catalytic activity, these metals, when used in combination with Cobalt and Manganese give films that do not surface dry as rapidly and thus harden through more uniformly. Such films are said to through burden and secondary driers are known, as through drier's Lead Organo-metallic complexes are the major drier of this type.

3) Combination Driers

Combination driers are a mixture of various driers in carefully controlled proportions for ready used for various types of paints, printing inks.

4) Copper Naphthenate/Octoate

Copper Naphthenates is a strong fungicide and insecticide. Copper does not find its use as drier due to its low activity an green color but can be used in certain types of stoving finishes based CNSL/Bhila van nut shell based compositions. It is used in treating of textile fabrics. The life of the fabric is much more increased with the use of copper Naphthenates.

Preservation of timber
Wood or wooden articles can also be well protected against attack of white ants, fungi, termites, borers, marine organism, dry or damp rot etc.

Other uses
Copper Naphthenates is also used as an ingredient in antiflouting paints and is largely used as component of ship's bottom paints. It is a protective agent to prevent the growth of fungi, molds etc. on plant. Floor waxes containing Copper Naphthenates protect better wooden concrete and Linoleum floors.
