Fullers Earth

Get Latest Price

The name reflects the first use of the material. In past centuries, fullers kneaded fuller's earth and water into woolen cloth to absorb lanolin, oils, and other greasy impurities as part of the cloth finishing process. Similarly, it has been used as an ingredient in powdered, "dry" shampoos. Fuller's earth was also sold in pharmacies until recently for compressing pills and cleaning hats and fabrics.

Important uses are in absorbents and filters. Because of this, it is used (with activated charcoal) in the treatment of paraquat poisoning to prevent the progression to pulmonary fibrosis. Fuller's earth is also used by military and civil emergency service personnel to decontaminate the clothing and equipment of soldiers and CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) responders who have been contaminated with chemical agents.

Fuller's earth has also been used extensively for many years in the motion picture industry for a variety of uses. In the area of special effects, it is used in pyrotechnics explosions and dust clouds because it spreads farther and higher than most natural dirt soils resulting in a blast that looks larger. It is also safer than naturally-occurring dirt, should the blast spray hit actors. Fuller's earth is also widely used by the make-up, props, wardrobe, and set dresser departments because it is considered a "clean" dirt, safer to use around people, and it cleans up easily. However, the health issues in this regard have been debated recently.
Pyrolite, an alternative soil, has been introduced to replace fuller's earth.
Fuller's earth is available in small quantities by make-up suppliers for use in making the face and body appear dirty. It is used by props technicians in a flour sieve to make furniture look dusty. Wardrobe dressers use a small, loose-mesh cloth bag filled with fuller's earth to dust down clothing to make it look more worn or dusty, as in the case of cowboys out on the range, or soldiers on the battle field. Set dressers use fuller's earth to change paved streets into dirt roads, to create dust trailing from a moving vehicle over a dirt road, or to indicate a vehicle trail over untraveled ground.

Cuttlefish Bone

Get Latest Price

Cuttlebone, also known as cuttlefish bone, is a hard, brittle internal structure found in all members of the family Sepiidae, commonly known as cuttlefish.

Cuttlebone is composed primarily of aragonite. It is a chambered, gas-filled shell used for buoyancy control; its siphuncle is highly modified and is on the ventral side of the shell.[2] The microscopic structure of cuttlebone consists of narrow layers connected by numerous upright pillars.

Depending on the species, cuttlebones implode at a depth of 200 to 600 metres (660 to 2,000 ft). Because of this limitation, most species of cuttlefish live on the seafloor in shallow water, usually on the continental shelf.[3]
n the past, cuttlebones were used in making polishing powder. The powder was added to toothpaste, and used as an antacid or as an absorbent.

Today, cuttlebones are commonly used as calcium-rich dietary supplements for caged birds, chinchillas, hermit crabs, and reptiles

Citrullus Colocynthis

Get Latest Price

Citrullus colocynthis, commonly known as the colocynth, bitter apple, bitter cucumber, desert gourd, egusi, or vine of Sodom (Sanskrit: Gavakshi , Indarvaruni ),[1] is a desert viny plant native to the Mediterranean Basin and Asia, especially Turkey (especially in regions such as zmir), Nubia and Trieste. It resembles a common watermelon vine but bears small, hard fruits with a bitter pulp. It originally bore the scientific name Colocynthis citrullus, but is now classified as Citrullus colocynthis. Colocynth is widely used in folk medicine since centuries. The interest in its anti-inflammatory properties has been renewed in modern times. Recently, immature colocynth fruits from south Tunisia proved to contain substantial alkaloid and flavonoid levels, which may increase the research on this fruit for further medicinal use also on the Western countries especially to treat pain and rheumatoid arthritis.[12] Aqueous and methanol extracts of colocynth also showed high antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria. Extracts of fruits, leaves, roots and stems where also found to be potentially usable against many gram positive bacilli and fungi as Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus and Mucor sp.[5] In addition, some of these extracts also resulted to have an insulin tropic[disambiguation needed] effect and therefore also an antidiabetic effect which might become crucial in the future standardized treatment of diabetes mellitus.[5][13][14] Cucurbitacin glucosides seem that could become important for the therapy against breast cancer cells because of its ability to modify cell morphology and signaling as well as to induce apoptosis and changes in mitochondrial membrane potential.[15] Another property of colocynth is hair growth stimulation; an experiment on rats demonstrated that hair growth initiation time was significantly decreased after treatment with colocynth petroleum ether extracts.[16]
