Diethyl Phthalate

The chemical name of Diethyl Phthalate is 1,2 Benzene di-Carbolic Acid, di-Ethyl Ester.

Applications:

Widely used as a fixative and solvent in perfumery, ester gums, cumarone, benzyl abeitate, vinyl and cyclohexanone-formaldehyde resins.

Molasses

Molasses is a thick syrup by-product from the processing of the sugarcane or sugar beet into sugar. (In some parts of the US, molasses also refers to sorghum syrup.) The word molasses comes from the Portuguese word melaço, which comes from mel, the Portuguese word for "honey". The quality of molasses depends on the maturity of the sugar cane or beet, the amount of sugar extracted, and the method of extraction. Because of its unusual properties, molasses has several uses beyond that of a straightforward food additive. It can be used as a chelating agent to remove rust, as the base material for fermentation into rum, as the carbon source for in situ remediation of chlorinated hydrocarbons, and it can even be mixed with sand to make mortar for brickwork.

Denatured Ethyl Alcohol

Denatured alcohol or Denatured Ethyl Alcohol/ Spirit is ethanol which has been rendered toxic or otherwise undrinkable, and in some cases dyed. It is used for purposes such as fuel for spirit burners and camping stoves, and as a solvent. Traditionally, the main additive was 10% methanol, which gave rise to methylated spirits. There are diverse industrial uses for ethanol, and therefore literally hundreds of recipes for denaturing ethanol. Typical additives are methanol, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, denatonium and even (uncommonly) aviation gasoline. In the phrase denatured alcohol, denatured means "a specific property of ethanol, its usefulness as a beverage, is removed". The ethanol molecule is not denatured in the sense that its chemical structure is altered. Its main advantages are its low cost, its ability to be extinguished by water, and its ability to be transported without special containers.
