Q.1 What are the types of eletrical water heaters?

1. Eletrical instant water heaters
These are best suitable for kitchen applications or in bathrooms in the coastal areas where the tempature does not vary significantly during the course of the year . However, as the hot water flow-rate from these waterheaters is limited,it is not recommended for shower application.

2. Eletrical storage Water heaters
These come in various storage capacities ranging from 6 to 300 litres in both vertical (wall mounting and floor standing) and horizontal configurations. Horizontal water heaters are more suitable for installation Where the height of the celing is low or the installation is required in the lot if you like a hot shower, go for a storage water heater.

Q. 2 How should I decide on the capacity of the heater to be installed?
To decide on the capacity, one needs to take into account the hot water requirement into consideration. It also depends on the application, usage / bathing pattern and number of users.The following table can work as a guidline for deciding on the capacity of of the climatic conditions and application required.

Q.1 How does it work?
Gas Water Heaters are feature-rich and extremely user friendly.When the tap is opened, cold water enters the system and the in-built sensor triggers the release of gas into the burners. The electronic control unit then lights up the gas automatically through a two step procedure. Multiple safety devices cut off the gas supply in case the burner fails to light up or extinguishes during operation.
The cold water then passes through the heat exchanger unit where the water temperature rises before it can be drawn from the outlet. The temperature can be controlled using the gas and water knob.When the tap is closed, the water heater shuts down automatically, ensuring complete safety.

Q.2 Where can it be installed?
The Gas Water heater is to be installed in a well-ventilated location. It can be installed in a well-ventilated kitchen or corridor. For natural flue models, it is recommended to install a flue pipe (optional) to discharge the exhaust gases outside. The Gas Water Heater should not be installed in the open nor should it be exposed to strong wind or rain. Always refer to the instruction manual provided with the product for proper installation.

Q.3 Where should the cylinder be placed?
The cylinder can be placed in the proximity of the water heater if space permits. Copper piping can be done for gas transmission in case the distance between the water heater and cylinder is more.

Q What is Solar Water System ?

A  A device which absorbs heat contained in solar radiation and transfer it to water circulating inside in termed a solar water heater system (SWHS)

Q what is the maximum temperature that can be obtained in a solar water heating system ?

A  The maximum temperature that can be attained is between 60 to 90 degree C .The rise is temperature.

Q  Can the system be installed anywhere ?

A  Yes, it can be installed on rooftops, terraces, open ground....any place where sunlight is freely available .

Q Site criteria?

A  No shadow of buildings and trees should fall on the collectors ; collectors should be oeiented south; overhead tank should have its bottom at least 8 ft from the surface on which the system is to be installed.

Q  Does the SWHS deliver hot water throughout the year?

A The swhs delivers maximumhot water on a clear sunny day , moderately hot water on a partially cloudy day, warm water on heavily clouded days and on rainy days and on days when the sun is totally obscured by dark heavy clouds the systen cannot obtain any solar energy and hence deliver is NIL SWHS delivers hot water 300-330 days in a year.

Q Does the quality of feed water affect the system performance and life?

A Yes, it definitely does. Soft water results in higher efficiencies over an extended period of time while hard results in scaling . Besides , dust and other particulate matter in bore wter can result in clogging of system pipes.

Q. Are there many different types of collectors and systems and how to select the best one?
 
A. different types of collectors and systems are available in the market and are priced diffrenrly. While selecting a system look for a colector having all copper absorber – riser header assembly, toughened glass glazing and a durable sealed outer body.
 
Q. What about maintainence?
 
A. In a domestic thermosiphon system maintenance is minimal. Regular cleaning of glass results in top performance. Check for leakages periodically and get the system collectors descaled everyyear.
 
Q Are three any government subsidies or loans available ?
 
A Soft loan is available from IREDA and some banks, repayable over a period of 5 to 8 years. In addition 100% depriciation tax relief can be claimed by profiy making companies
 
Q What is the life expectancy of a SWHS ?
 
A A well maintained systems can be expected to work for 20 to 25 years.

A Through the initial investment is high, system cost is repaid with in 3 years by way of savings in electricity bills .
