The Cam Index Drives  is a technological marvel. Most automation in industry make use of this mechanism where in it converts continuous rotary input into intermittent, indexing output motion. As the input shaft rotates continuously, by the geometry of the cam and the follower the output shaft also rotates but  intermittently thereby getting smooth and jerk free motion throughout its cycles.

Globoidal cam and disc cam
The Globoidal cam is attached with input shaft. A predefined groove conforming to certain standard curve as modified Sine curve is generated on the circumference of the cam to a well defined limits. The cam follower unit which meshes with the groove is attached to the output shaft. Only constraint is that the input shaft axis and output shaft axis are perpendicular and do not intersect. The Disc Cam is similar to Globoidal but transmits motion between parallel shafts. Here Two cams are identical in size but profile is conjugate to one another. The constraint is that min. index angle more than 90 degrees.

Unlike other power transmission systems, Index Drives are to be manufactured almost to zero tolerance. Parameters like index angle which varies from 90 degrees to 270 degrees, no. of stops or DWELL which may be 2,4,5,6,8,10,12--up to 36, type of output load, output torque, input speed, type of drive elements attached to the input shaft etc., are to be decided very  carefully.
 
Versatility:

• Indexers are manufactured to various sizes as ranging from 50mm to 200mm as axis centers.
• Six  faces are machined orthogonally and mounting holes are provided so that it can be fixed on all six positions.
• Cams are manufactured as either RH cam or LH cam to suite designed direction of rotation.
• Torque Limiter, Reducer, Clutch Brake, Motor or another indexer as primary or secondary etc., can be attached to the Index drive making it more efficient and versatile.

The cups only the height is different, that means the sizes have the same bottom, the same coning, in this type, only change the bottom molds and the cup body molds.
