In our daily living we unrelentingly use paper without giving much thought as to how paper is made. The truth can be quite disturbing. The pulp and paper industry is today at crossroads facing the serious problem of supply of raw material that are predominantly forest based fibers, WOOD and BAMBOO.
The fast depletion of these conventional raw materials without planned afforestation is a threat not only too this industry but also to the entire eco-system causing concern to every discerning human being.
The coverage of forests, which was around 30% in the fifties, has been reduced to 16% of the total land mass. Even if one keeps the problem of ecological imbalance apart, this by itself is not sufficient to meet the demand. The situation hence needs a probe into alternative materials.
