T.N. Balakrishnan and Bk.Parimalathevi, who forayed into block printing two years ago, run Sai Creations. It houses over 2000 block print designs. Balakrishnan says, “If there is an old sari that is just lying in the cupboard unused, then block printing can bring about a refreshing change to it. Printed on cotton manufactured in Coimbatore, these saris are sent by the wholesalers to other parts of India. The biggest hit with Balakrishnan's clients is a special imported dye that he uses that gives a “3-D” look. This colour gives an embossed finish that makes each design jump out. For people who want something truly different, Balakrishnan teams up a bit of appliqué work with block prints. And these, sell like hot cakes too.+ Read More
