An three membrane process are being applied depending on the end use of the whey product. Ultrafiltration of whey is done to produce different levels of whey protein concentrate upto WPC80%. ln this case the permeate is lactose as well as salts, which are then concent-rated by Reverse Osmosis and evaporation to ultimately produce lactose powder. Nanofiltration of whey is done when demineraliza4vhcy powder is the product. The NF system concentrates as well as demincralizes the whey. Upto 50% reduction in ash content is easily achieved at a concentration of 15% solids. The permeate will contain a small amount of lactose and monovalent salts.
