Potasium Silicate Based Cement (PEPSIL-K)

Potasium Silicate Based Cement (PEPSIL-K)

Description and Uses :-

Pepsil-K is of the Air -setting type and the mix of the powder and special liquid sets evenly, rapidly and completely as the result of Chemical reaction between its components. When fully hardened PEPSIL-K is resistant to all strengths of Sulphuric. Hydrochloric, acetic and other inorganic and organic acids upto PH4. However PEPSIL-K is not suitable for Hydrofluoric and Phosphoric acids, weak acids, water and Alkali solutions.

PEPSIL-K is also resistant to corrosive Chemicals and solvents mineral oils and greases.

Preparation of PEPSIL-K CEMENT :-

PEPSIL-K Cement is prepared by combining PEPSIL-K liquid with PEPSIL-K Powder to form a workable mix.

The mixing ratio is 1 part liquid to 3 parts powder by weight. Stir the PFPSIL-K liquid thoroughly before using. Place one part of liquid in a suitable shallow mixing pan. Add 3 parts of PEPSIL-K powder by weight, mix thoroughly and rapidly to form a smooth mortar.

Any mixed mortar which has started hardening and which has not by then been applied, is unusable. Cement mixes which have begun to harden cannot be rendered useable by Adding more of liquid component.

APPLICATION OF PEPSIL-K CEMENT:-

PEPSIL-K Cement is buttered on Acid-Proof bricks or tiles using the usual brick layer's method where bedding and jointing cement are one. Place the acid-proof tiles or bricks on the same very close againsl each other and tamp these gently with a wooden mallet till the paste squeezes out of the joints. A joint about 3 to 5mm is recommended. The paste that is squeezed out of the joints should be slicked with trowel.

Allow the finished surface to dry for about 72 hours in case the weather is dry- If the weather is humid, longer time would be required for the surface dry say even uplo 120 hours.Apply with a brush hydrochloric acid made up of one part by volume of acid and 3 parts by volume of water, to the joints. Repeat the application every 3 to 4 hours for 2 days.

The construction is then read) for use First contact of I'HI'SIL-k lining should always be with Acid and not with water. When fully hardened PEPSI I. -K is resistant to oxidizing acids, organic solvents acids. Nutral Salts. It resistant to all strength of sulphuric Acid, hydrochloric, acetic and other inorganic and organic acids upto PH4.

It is not suitable for Hydrofluoric, Phosphoric acids.

Phenolic Resin Cement (PEPSIL - PN)

Description and Uses :-

Pepsil-PN is phenolic resin based corrosion proof cement , and is one of the resin based chemical setting cement. Pepsil-pn exhibits excellent resistance to sulphui ic acid, in concentrations as high as 92% and is principally used with acid proof brick to construct corrosion proof masonry sheathing to protect reaction vessels, storage tanks, pickling tanks and processing tanks and equipment. It is also used in the installation of corrosion proof floors.

One of the outstanding feature of pepsil-pn is its excellent working properties. It can be easily applied using brick layer's techniques and is not sticky nor difficult to handle. Pepsil-pn is also available for special applications in such cases where an effective electrical insulating cement is required.

Chemical Resistence:-

Pepsil-PN when completely set, is resistant to all non-oxidizing acids, dilute oxidizing acids and agents, salts and most organic solvents at temperatures up to 370 f. As mentioned above, it is especially well suit for service with sulphuric acids, phosphoric acids, at any concentration.

Pepsil-PN is not recommended for use with alkalies, hot alkaline salts or high concentration of oxidizing acids or agents.

Preparation of Pepsil-PN Cement :-

Pepsil-PN Cement is prepared by combining pepsil-pn liquid resin and Pepsil-PN powder to form a workable mix the mixing ratio is 1 part resin to 3 parts powder by weight. The ratio will vary slightly depending upon temperature, working conditions, the mechanic's preference and ingredients of fillers selected.

Stir the pepsil-pn liquid resin thoroughly before using. Place 1 part of liquid resin in a suitable shallow mixing pan.

Add 3 parts of pepsil-pn powder by weight, mix thoroughly and rapidly to form a smooth mortar.

Spread out the cement in a thin layer, not more than 3/4" thick to dissipate the heat of reaction and lengthen the working life.

Batch size can be varied depending upon the temperature and the speed with which the masons are working. Very large batches will become stiff quite rapidly.

Make sure that all the pepsil-pn cement has been removed from the pan before another batch is mixed.

When working at temperature above 85 f ; very small batches, no large than 2 kgs. Should be used.

When working at temperatures below 60 f both of the powder and the liquid resin should be kept warm but not above 80 f.

Application of Pepsil-PN :-

Pepsil-PN Cement is buttered on acid proof brick using the usual bricks layer's method, where bedding and jointing cements are one. In case of bedding and jointing cements are different pepstl-pn is better for pointing to the joints of bricks. During and after completion of the installation the area must be dry and free from foreign material such as construction dirt, portland cement, plaster and other contaminates which would interfere with the setting of the cement.

Cleaning of Equipment :-

Hands and equipment should be cleaned before pepsil-pn cement begins to set. Alcohol can be used fot this purpose.

Storage life :-

Store Pepsil-PN liquid resin at low temperature i. E at below 15 c in the original unopened containers until ready for use. Under this condition liquid resin has storage life of 2 to 3 months. Store pepsil-pn powder in a cool, dry place. In the original, unopened containers the powder has storage life of 6 months.

Furan Resin Cement (PEPSIL - FR)

Furan Resin Cement (PEPSIL - FR)

General

Pepsil-FR normal is a two component cement based on Furane Resin and graded silica fillers with a catalyst. The hardened Cement exhibits resistance to all non oxidizing acids dilute Oxidizing acids and has a temperature resistance upto 150 C.

Use

The Pepsil-FR normal cement is an ideal choice for laying and Pointing of ceramic tiles where non oxidizing acids. dilute Oxidizing acids. solvents and alkalies used for neutralizing Reaction. Pepsil-FR normal should not be used where HF strong Alkalies are encountered, instead Pepsil-FR Spl. should be used.

Pretreatement of the substrate surface

Steal and concrete should not come in direct contact with Pepsi!-FR cement. Such surface should be provided with protective Membrane based on epoxy, polyurethane or a vinylester, or Otherwise provided with a layer of PIB Film, rubber, bitumen etc.. If the tiles are laid hollow pointed in composition which react Alkaline , these pointing composition must be set and dry. rhe hollow points which are cut right angled and are atleast 15mm and where possible 5 to 8mm deep, should be cleaned and dry should be treated with acid before jointing. Where cement mortar based on epoxy has been used as a laying component it should be given an as a treatment with 10% alcoholic hydrochloric acid and where cement based on potassium silicate, the acid treatment should be with 20% alcoholic sulphuric acid. The hollow joints which have been treated with acid must be dry before pointing with a Pepsi!-FR Cement.

Pepsil FR normal : 1 part of liquid to 3 part of powder

Pepsil FR spl graphite base: 1 part of liquid to 1.2 parts of powder.

The liquid is taken in the pan and the powder is added and mixed Lump free until the cement composition is completely homogeneous. Because of the exothermic nature of the reaction the cement should be kept spread out. The pot life depends upon the processing temperature. At 30 C it is about 15 to 20 minutes, and it is reduced at higher temperature and increased at lower temperatures. At hot building sites only small amount of cement should be mixed to avoid uncontrolled exothermic reactions. Moisture even in the form of water vapours is harmful to cement which has not yet hardened, care should be taken that the working site remains dry and warm until the cement has completely hardened. The use of transportable hot air blowers or IR lamps are advantageous.

Working and initial setting time

Tiled surface and massonary linings cemented with pepsil-FR should not be used until a week after completion. In order to achieve good chemical resistance to solvents and alkalies, a heat treatment with hot blowers or IR lamps should be provided for about 8 to 12 hrs. The heat treatment should be provided after the initial setting has been completed. While carrying out jobs for effluent treatment tanks, the after heat treatment is strongly recommended.

Cleaning

Before the cement sets, the remaining material can be Removed with Methyl Ethyl Ketone of Acetone after treatment of the laid cement.

Pepsil-FR cement that has hardened at room temperature for 7 days exhibits a high degree of chemical resistance for achieving the optimum resistance particularly to solvent and alkalies, a thermal after treatment is recommended.
