PSA SICAL Terminals Limited is a joint venture between PSA International and SICAL Logistics and operates the Tuticorin Container Terminal (¿TCT¿). As part of the PSA group of companies and with the partnership from SICAL, PSA SICAL is known for its efficiency, speed and reliability in the container ports and terminals business. TCT is a significant gateway port in the state of Tamil Nadu, located at the southern tip of India and within only 14 nautical miles of international shipping routes. TCT is an all weather terminal not affected by seasonal changes or tidal constraints. TCT, since its inception in December 1999, has built a very strong foundation as a ¿Preferred Port¿ in South India. It serves the region¿s main textile industry. Shipping lines and shippers using TCT enjoy the high quality and value-added services that they have come to expect at PSA¿s terminals worldwide. TCT is well connected by road and rail to all the major industries. The 4 lane roads and roads by-passing large residential areas permit smooth and unrestricted movement of container trailers. In addition, train service from Bangalore, Chennai and Kochi connects the Terminal. TCT has the modern container handling equipment and operating systems to deliver fast, flexible and reliable services to the inland transportation and shipping lines. TCT¿s close and cordial interaction with the local port community and Customs has built a strong foundation for the continued growth at TCT. In the year 2008, Tuticorin Container Terminal¿s throughput grew by 5% to 4,55,061 TEUs and has been growing at a compounded rate of 16% annually, since the commencement of operations. Other long-term plans include deepening the port to handle larger ships and outer harbour development project.
