General FAQ's and usage instruction
Frequently Asked Questions on Ready
to Eat Meals 1. What is Ready to Eat (RTE) Meal? Ans. A RTE Meal is equivalent to a dish
cooked at home. It has the same level of cooking parameters,
ingredients quality and preparation method. While a dish cooked at
home has an average storage period of 3-4 days (refrigerated), a RTE
meal in Retort Pouches / Cans can be stored upto 2 years* in ambient
storage.
*Once opened, RTE products must be
consumed immediately. 2. What is ambient storage? Ans. Cool and dry spaces are considered
to be ambient storage. Avoid exposure to sunlight / heat in order to
maximize storage life.
3. What about Preservatives? Ans. Very few products have
Preservatives which are mentioned in that packs. Otherwise, all
products are 100% natural.
4. What is Retort Technology? Ans. Retorting is based on the
principle of packing & further sealing of food in aseptic
conditions in specialized containers – Retort Pouches / Tins /
Rigid Containers. This means the product is sealed inside 4 layer
Flexible Retort Pouches or in Cans after a partial vacuum has been
created. The packaged product is then subjected to high temperatures
121
°C/25o
°F and high levels of pressure up to 20 lbs PSI, in order
that the bacteria/micro-organisms inside, if any, are inactivated.
Layers of Aluminum foil / Tin sheets protect containers from further
Bacterial proliferation or interaction with Moisture or Air.
Therefore the product shelf life is achieved.
5. Any special heating or usage
instructions? Ans. One can heat RTE food using the
following methods***
a) Completely immerse unopened retort
pouch in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes. Cut pouch and serve hot.
b) Empty pouch contents into a
microwaveable dish. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes and serve hot.

of a product having gone bad. Under any circumstances bloated / leaky
pouches are not to be purchased or if in storage never to be

all sides and look for any leakages / bubbles.

serving size and there should not be any leftover. However, if any,
