Cooling towers are heat removal equipment that either use water evaporation or air transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere. Water is used to cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature, whereas air is used to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature. The towers are available in sizes ranging from small roof-top units to very large hyperboloid structures that can have the height of up to 200 meters and a diameter of 100 meters. They can even be rectangular in shape with a height of more than 40 meters and a length of 80 meters. The larger towers are usually constructed on site whereas, the smaller towers are manufactured in factory.
