beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, Taj Mahal is the largest mausoleum built on

» Agra Fort - Agra Fort or
Red Fort of Agra from where one can see Taj Mahal on the other bank of
Yamuna. Built on the site of an earlier castle between 1565-75 AD, the fort,
apart from other important units, contains Jahangiri Mahal, Khass Mahal,
Diwan-i-Khass, Diwan-i-Am, Machchhi Bhawan and Moti Masjid.
» Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula - Tomb
of Itmad-ud-Daula is another great monument that found its place in Agra
tourist attractions. The structure is renowned for its pietra dura
decoration i.e. the inlay works and the carvings. It quiet different from
the other Mughal tombs in terms of its architecture. The queen of Jehangir
and the daughter of Itmad-ud-daula Nurjahan built the tomb in the memory of
her father. Mirza Ghiyas Beg, an Imperial Officer who had received the title
of Itmad-ud-Daula (Pillar of Government).
» Jama Masjid - Jehanara
Begum, daughter of Jehangir, built Jama Masjid in the memory of legendary
Sufi saint Salim Chisthi and his grandson Islam Khan. This is place to see.
» Sikandra - Surrounded by
the peaceful gardens at Sikandra, 4 km north-west of Agra, lies the tomb of
Akbar made of sandstone and marble. The mausoleum represents Akbar's
philosophy and secular outlook blending Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and
Christian motifs and styles. Construction of this beautiful monument was
begun by Akbar himself, but Akbar died before the completion of the
construction and his son Jehangir completed it.
» Fatehpur Sikri - An Epic
on Red Stone - the Fatehpur Sikri was built during the second half of the
16th century by the Emperor Akbar. Left almost deserted for about 400 years,
Fatehpur Sikri (the City of Victory) was the capital of the Mughal Empire
for only some 10 years. The complex of monuments and temples, all in a
uniform architectural style, includes one of the largest mosques in India,
the Jama Masjid.
