How to Reach Himachal Pradesh :
» Air - The are three airports in the state - at
Bhuntar, Gaggal, and Jubbarhatti, connecting the state with Delhi and
Chandigarh with regular flights. There is no international airport in
Himachal Pradesh.
» Rail - The high altitude Himachal Pradesh has
irregular hilly terrains, which has not helped the rail routes to develop in
the state. The railway network within the state is accessible only to few
places in Himachal Pradesh. The longest railway line is Pathankot in Punjab
to Jogindernagar in Himachal Pradesh. Other railway tracks are at Shimla,
Solan, and Una.
» Road - The state is connected to major cities of
the state through a good road network. The heavy snowfall and landslides in
the winters and rainy season, sometimes block the roads for long periods.

» Shimla - Shimla, also know as the "queen of
hill stations", is a quaint little hill town, tucked away in the
Shivalik foothills, over dramatic loops and high arched bridges. At a height
of 2130 m, the capital of the mountain state of Himachal, Shimla was the
glamorous summer capital of the British, in India. Shimla's salubrious
climate, easy reach and countless attractions have made it one of the most
popular hill stations in northern India. The splendid views of the snow-clad
peaks of the Himalayas, fine walks through oak and dazzling rhododendron,
enchanting resorts within easy access, golf Naldehra and skiing at Kufri and
Narkanda make Shimla a favourite tourist destination throughout the year.

» Kullu - Kullu at a height of
1200m is a composed little hill town with refreshing and rejuvenating
climate. Situated on the banks of the Beas, Kullu, the headquarters of the
district, serves as a nerve centre of the valley and is the base point for a
number of treks. The deodar-fringed grassy maidan, Dhalpur, is a platform
for many colourful fairs. Kully with its lush surroundings is perhaps the
most delightful region in the western Himalayas.

Jagannathi Temple, Bijli Mahadev Temple, The Great Himalayan National Park,
Kanawar Sanctuary.
» Manali - Manali situated at
an altitude of 2050 m is a major hill station resort of the country set on
the foot of the mighty Rohtang Pass. There are lovely walks and interesting
spots near by, which are worth seeing. Manali is an ideal base in India for
Skiing, Paragliding, River - Rafting and Trekking.
Major Attractions : Kothi, Solang Valley, Rahla Falls,
Manali Sanctuary, Rohtang Pass.
» Dharamshala - Dharamsala
is divided into two distinct and widely separated sections - Upper and Lower
Dharamsala, each with a flair of its own. Dharamsala overlooks the plains
and is surrounded by dense pine trees and Deodar forests. A nearby snowline
with numerous streams and cool healthy atmosphere makes the surroundings
very attractive.

» Renuka - Located at the base
of the Renuka Lake is the Parashurama Tal, a massive pool embodying, it is
believed, 'Parashurama', who desired to spend eternity at his mother's feet.
Mother and son are reunited every year at the great Renuka Fair, held on
banks of the lake, in the month of November. The original temple of
Renukaji, is said to have been built overnight by a contingent of Gurkhas in
the early 19th century.
» Rewalsar Lake - A
pilgrimage centre for Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs is in Mandi district, 24
kms from Mandi town. Shaped quite like a square and with a shoreline of 735
m, this dark jewel rests on a mountain spur and is protected by a variety of
dense vegetation. The spot is held sacred by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists
alike. There are three Buddhist monasteries at Rewalsar. It also has a
gurudwara that was built in 1930 by raja Joginder Sen of Mandi. Rewalsar has
three Hindi temples which are dedicated to lord Krishna, lord Shiva and to
the sage Lomas. A small zoo also is maintained near the lake.
» Dalhousie - Spreading
over five low-level hills at the western edge of the Dhauladhar range, the
hill station of Dalhousie is a quiet town, with a sense of enchantment.
Established in 1854 by the British governor-general Lord Dalhousie, the
picturesque town is interspersed with the colonial-era buildings, low roofed
stalls and hotels.
