The papaya is a common tropical fruit in india, often grown in family gardens. The papaya tree is unusual in structure as it consists of a very narrow straight trunk with no bark. in the 1930s, ruler of junagadh state mahabat khan's agri-horticulture advisor krishnaswamy iyengar experimented and grafted a local mango variety with several alphonso grafts, sowing it in the red laterite soil in the foothills of mount girnar. The fruit that emerged had a golden saffron glow and a rich smooth pulp.
