Apamat Ii Measurement System

Apamat Ii Measurement System

The Rieter APAMAT II simulates the combination of structure-borne and airborne excitation the car-body panels are subjected to under normal driving conditions. Even though the measurements are carried out in a laboratory, the results are valid and reliable and correspond well to the conditions encountered in practice.

It has been designed because a comprehensive system for the overall acoustic efficiency measurements did not exist. The problem was that the existing methods to separately measure transmission loss, damping and absorption were not always sufficient to compare and classify those soundproofing systems currently used in the automotive industry.

Rieter APAMAT II fills this gap and enables its users to comprehensively measure the overall acoustic efficiency of automotive noise control treatments and materials.
The excellent suppression of secondary transmission paths in Rieter APAMAT II leads to a high dynamic range, making it particularly suitable for measurements on modern, high-performance noise control treatments.

The unique benefits:

• unique combination of structure and airborne excitation
• measurements are particularly quick and easy to perform
• very robust, stable and durable system
• makes an overall acoustic efficiency measurement possible that indicates how materials will perform in the vehicle
• compare and classify those soundproofing systems currently used in the automotive industry with one single system
• for the development of new materials and concepts
• consistently reliable results
• the right choice for comprehensive acoustic treatment measurements

Isokell System

Isokell System

The Rieter Isokell system has been designed around the need to measure the transmission loss of automotive components according to a Recommended Practice introduced by the SAE (J1400) as a flexible acoustic insulation measurement method specifically for the automotive industry. The Rieter Isokell system is less cumbersome, less costly and perfectly suited to the industry’s needs than those methods designed traditionally for the measurement of building acoustics. And the results it provides can still be correlated with those from international standards.

The unique benefits:
• save time thanks to horizontal sample mounting
• measure flat samples or components
• fast and easy measurement procedure thanks to user-friendly software interfaces
• its reduced size means it can be moved to a new location
• used in combination with the Rieter Alpha Cabin, it can also be used to measure absorption

Technical details:
Overall dimensions:
3.4 x 2.5 x 4.75 m (L x W x H)

Porpos Measurement System

Porpos Measurement System

Rieter Porpos uses the "air-based" method to measure the porosity (ratio of air to overall volume) of felts and foams. Via a process of compressing and de-compressing air the sample porosity can be derived from the resulting pressure changes. Rieter Porpos is perfectly suited not only for experts: it guides the user through the preparation and the software controls the measurement cycle as well as evaluates the results.

The unique benefits:
• fast, easy and straight forward measurement procedure thanks to very user-friendly software interface
• software evaluates results for you
• applicable to a wide range of porous materials such as felts and foams
• samples measured can go up to practically 100 % porosity (only air)
• high quality measurements that you can expect form Rieter Systems

Rieter Alpha Cabin

Rieter Alpha Cabin

The Rieter Alpha Cabin has been specifically designed for the measurement of the acoustic absorption characteristics of materials and parts used in noise control in road vehicles. The Rieter Alpha Cabin is one third the size of an international standard reverberation room which makes it an ideal measurement system for the automotive industry. The acoustic absorption of the Rieter Alpha Cabin itself is very low and the design ensures a high level of sound insulation to keep the background noise level very low in the frequency range of interest.

The unique benefits:

• the right system to use during the development of optimised vehicle sound packages
worldwide standard used by most OEMs and suppliers
fast and easy measurement procedure thanks to user-friendly software interfaces
• it provides results that allow specifications to be set for the absorption properties of NVH products
• also ideal as a quality control system
• an R&T tool for the development of new materials and parts
• its reduced size means it can easily be moved to a new location
• used in combination with the Rieter Isokell, it can also be used to measure transmission loss

Carrousel Measurement System

Carrousel Measurement System

The Rieter Carrousel measures the dynamic vibration properties of test strips consisting of various materials that can be coated or not-coated. The method is based on the classic Oberst procedure where Rieter has improved both the measuring procedure itself and the mathematical model used to evaluate the results. The Rieter Carrousel software automatically evaluates the damping loss factor at various modes and temperatures as well as controlling both the Rieter Carrousel apparatus and the all-important temperature when measuring in a temperature chamber.

Engine Covers

Engine Covers

The engine bay is the source of all thermal and acoustic issues in a car. Rieter Automotive Systems has a wide range of well-designed products combining both these properties:

  • engine covers
  • hoodliners
  • outer dash insulators / outer tunnel insulators
  • water box shields / plenum chamber and battery trays

Working closely with our customers, we are developing engine-mounted or body-mounted engine encapsulations with the focus on acoustics and/or heat storage management aimed at lowering fuel consumption, reducing emissions and improving acoustics.

Engine Noise Simulator System

Engine Noise Simulator System

Rieter ENS (Engine Noise Simulator) was designed as a realistic sound source when investigating the airborne noise transmission between engine and passenger compartment of a vehicle. It is basically a simplified model of the engine/gearbox unit of a small to medium sized car.

Compared to a simple sound source, Rieter ENS has the advantage of being a realistic representation of a vehicle power unit and thus, of producing valid measurements. It allows for special problems associated with noise radiation from specific engine surfaces to be studied.

Evaluation Of Light Weight Impedance System

Evaluation Of Light Weight Impedance System

ELWIS (Evaluation of Light Weight Impedance System), the latest addition to the Rieter Measurement System portfolio, allows for the full and rapid characterization of porous materials.
Whereas the evaluation of different acoustic concepts usually requires a large database of material measurements, ELWIS only needs a single sample of a porous material from the manufacturing line, or from a vehicle component.

The Rieter ELWIS system consists of the applications ELWIS-A and ELWIS-S which can be used separately, however, are both needed for a complete material simulation.
Rieter ELWIS-A evaluates acoustic parameters that are needed to evaluate the acoustic performance of sound insulation and sound absorbing multi-layer treatment.
Rieter ELWIS-S measures structural parameters (including the “Poisson Ratio” for foam materials) that are needed to simulate the dynamical and acoustical behaviour of real finite-size sound package parts in the medium to low frequency range.

The Rieter ELWIS system is very easy to operate: thanks to its user-friendly software, users with only limited expertise on porous material characterization can use Rieter ELWIS and obtain correct results.

The unique benefits:

• The right tool for obtaining the material parameters used input data for component simulation using e.g. SISAB or SEA
• the right choice to quickly compare the performances of different sound package solutions or materials
• software can easily be operated also by non-experts
• rapid, easy and reliable data evaluation, only needs a single sample of a porous material
• supersedes large databases with material parameters to make the right decision regarding sound packages
• can also be used as a quality control system
• adaptable to a wide range of materials and parts
• combines the benefits of inverse methods together with innovative post-processing and material knowledge
