![]() | Bursting Strength Tester This
equipment confirms to TAPPI / ASTM / ISO standards and is suitable to
test the Bursting Strength (BS) of :
Bursting strength of a material is defined as the maximum hydrostatic pressure required to produce rupture of the material when a controlled and constantly increasing pressure is applied through a rubber diaphragm to a circular area. Significance : For Paper (TAPPI T 403): Bursting strength is widely used as a measure of resistance to rupture in many kinds of paper. The test is relatively easy and inexpensive to make and appears to simulate some end use requirements. For Kraft Board (TAPPI T 807): The bursting strength test of paperboard, including linerboard, is a composite measure of certain properties of the sheet structure, principally tensile strength and elongation. In general, bursting strength is dependent on the type, proportion, preparation, and amount of fibers present in the sheet and on their formation, internal sizing, and, to some degree, the surface treatment. While bursting strength is an empirical property, this test, in combination with grammage (basis weight), serves to define “standard grades” in commerce. For Corrugated Fiber Board (TAPPI T 810): The bursting strength of combined board is primarily an indication of the character of the materials used in manufacturing a fiberboard box and has value in this respect. Bursting strength of combined board is an optional requirement of the various carrier regulations for shipping containers. The bursting strength of the component paperboard is an important control test in the paperboard mill since the conformity of the finished container is generally controlled by the bursting strength of the paperboard. Triple-wall corrugated board cannot be tested suitably by the bursting method. Testing of double-wall board is of questionable accuracy since it is rarely possible to get sufficiently simultaneous bursts of the multiple facings. The test is simple and rapid to execute, but it must be recognized that it is subject to serious errors if instrument, diaphragm, and gages are not properly maintained or if improper procedures are used Capacities Available : Paper Tester : 0 - 6 kg/cm2 Kraft Board Tester : 0 - 10 kg/cm2 Corrugated Board Tester : 0 - 10 & 0 - 25 kg/cm2 Models available : Various models starting from Economy Analog models to the high-end Fully Automatic Computerized models. ![]() | Paper Core / Cone Compression Tester This
is an equipment to test paper tubes / cores & cones for:
Paper tubes, bobbins & cones are used as yarn carriers while paper cores are generally used for paper & plastic film reels. If the core / cone is being used as Packaging Media, then Flat Crush is considered relevant. If however the core / cone is being used as a carrier or winding medium, then Flat Crush is irrelevant. When used as a winding media, the forces acting on the carrier act radially inwards and hence the performance of the carrier can be predicted suitably only by the Radial Crush method. It is designed in such a manner that gradually increasing force is generated & applied on 66% of the surface of the carrier. The sharp collapsing point can be easily detected and a suitable reading can be taken. The collapsing force, which the carriers are capable of resisting, is dependent upon the following factors:
But it is very easy for both the user and manufacturer to differentiate between good and bad and adopt a suitable standard of monitoring the quality of the carrier. Salient features :
300 Kgf, 500 Kgf, 1000 Kgf, 1200 Kgf and 2000 Kgf. Models available : Various models starting from Economy Analog models to the high-end Fully Automatic Computerized models. This equipment is relevant to :

![]() | Ink Rub Tester / Scuff Tester This
is an equipment to evaluate the Print Quality / Rub proofness of
prints on a substrate. Good Print Quality is a perfect combination of Good Ink + Good Substrate + Good Process + Good Drying. If any of the above factors go wrong, the result can be disastrous. The most commonly used method to evaluate print quality is by rubbing 2 printed surfaces against each other. However if this is done manually, the amount of pressure applied during rubbing cannot be quantified and kept constant. Moreover it is difficult to keep the plane of contact constant and keep a track of the number of rubs. Hence making this method highly Operator Dependent. The Sutherland Rub Tester or the Patra Rub Tester overcomes this by rubbing 2 printed surfaces against each other (face-to-face) in the same plane, at a constant pre-determined speed, under a constant rubbing pressure. This equipment can also be used to evaluate color transfer from printed / coated surfaces during rubbing. This equipment confirms to international specifications of TAPPI – T-830 / ASTM D-5264-92 and PATRA / PIRA / BS - 3110. Models available : Various digital models with non-contact type rub counters, Auto-stop facilities, Speed Indicators, etc. This equipment is relevant to :

![]() | Mini Carton Compression Tester Normally
the stiffness value (Taber) of Duplex Board is taken as an indicator
of the rigidity of Printed Duplex Board Cartons. However the results
shown on a stiffness tester cannot be properly understood or
co-related with the performance of the mini carton. This is an equipment to evaluate maximum compressive force a carton can withstand before failing. This reading can be easily co-related with the stackability of individual printed cartons or of the larger shipper cartons. Principle of loading:
100 Kg, 300 Kg and 500 Kg Models available : Various models starting from Economy Analog models to the high-end Fully Automatic Computerized models. This equipment is relevant to :

![]() | Coefficient of Friction (COF) Tester This
is an equipment to check the Coefficient of Static Friction (COF) as
well as the Coefficient of Static Friction (COF) between Paper -
Paper, Film - Film, Laminates - Film / Metal, etc Definitions : The coefficient of friction is the ratio of the frictional force resisting movement of the surface being tested to the force applied normal to that surface (the weight of the material above that surface). The static coefficient is the ratio of the force resisting initial motion of the surface to the normal force. The kinetic coefficient (not determined by this method) is the ratio of the force resisting motion of the surface to the normal force once the motion is in progress. Significance : The coefficient of friction of packaging materials indicates how packages made from that material will perform in many critical applications. The COF values are directly related to the optimum working of films or laminates on F.F.S machines used in packaging of products in pouches. While excessive friction will lower down production speeds, the lower friction may cause slippage and improper pouch formations. The coefficient of friction of printing and writing papers is an indicator of the ease with which the top or bottom sheets of a stack of paper will slide across the succeeding sheet, such as occurs on the infeed of a printing press or the sheet transport into a copier machine. A minimum value of coefficient of friction is required to prevent doublefeeding of any sheets. A high coefficient of one surface of paper or paperboard (containerboard) to itself means that containers having that surface will tend to resist sliding in unit loads. A low coefficient may indicate potential problems with the packages slipping from the load. The equipment confirms to various International standards like TAPPI T - 549. Models available : Various models starting from Standard Digital models to the high-end Fully Automatic Computerized models. This equipment is relevant to :

![]() | Pouch Compression / Pouch Burst Tester This
is an equipment to test the Seal Integrity / Seal Strength of liquid
/ semi-solid filled pouches with or without gas / air, such as
shampoos / oil / tea leaves in pouches / wafers / chips packed on FFS
machines. Significance: When a master carton fails due to compressive load in stacking / warehousing, the palletized load gets transmitted to the individual pouches. This load generates extra pressure inside the filled pouches and can cause seal failure resulting in leakage of liquid / solid / gas from failed seal joint. It is desirable to know the maximum load causing seal / seam failure in pouch. This maximum load resulting into failure of weak seal is called Pouch Burst Strength or Pouch Compression Strength. Principle of operation:
300 Kg, 500 Kg, 1000 Kg, 1500 Kg, 2000 Kg. Models available : Various models starting from Economy Analog models to the high-end Fully Automatic Computerized models. This equipment is relevant to :

On Automatic Production line involving Auto-Capping operation, this Equipment will help to set the machine for the Optimum Closing and Subsequent Opening Torque. This will also help in designing the suitable Thread Profile of Plastic Caps for Plastic Bottles as well as for Glass Bottles. The Opening Torque for Closures is a prime requirement from the User‘s point of view. Extra High Torque means extra effort by the consumer to open a bottle / jar. Extra Low Torque means - loose caps. Causing spillage and leakage due to transit vibrations. Every product has to be designed with an Optimum Torque Value taking into consideration its end use. This Optimum Torque Value will lead to an Optimum Closing Torque which needs to be adjusted on your bottling machine to give consistent performance of your package. Emphasis on the Torque Values during Design & Development stages can easily predict Market Acceptability and Performance of your package.
