Deep Drawing is a process where a flat blank is taken from a sheet metal strip and formed into a cylindrical part that is either simple or complex in designs. The material is placed over a die and is drawn by a punch into the die in several stages to form the desired part design.

• Blank taken from the sheet metal strip is pressed with punch into a die in the first draw station, called cupping station
• After cupping station subsequent draws occur taking the part to its final design configuration
• It is accomplished when nose of draw punch pulls shell from previous station into die to further reduce diameter which typically lengthens the part
• When this occurs there is some thinning of side wall towards bottom of the part and thickening of the flange on drawn shell
• During this draw process, there can also be one/more than one step diameters created on the part
• The part is always under the control of either the punch and die or the transfer fingers thus eliminating need for springs/die cushions
