Gunn Diode
Gunn Diode

We manufacture and export gunn diode, also known as a transferred electron device. This is a form of diode used in high-frequency electronics. It is somewhat unusual in that it consists only of N-doped semiconductor material, whereas most diodes consist of both P and N doped regions. In the Gunn diode, three regions exist: two of them are heavily N-doped on each terminal, with a thin layer of lightly doped material in between.

The oscillation frequency is determined partly by the properties of the thin middle layer, but can be adjusted by external factors. Gunn diodes are therefore used to build oscillators in the 10 GHz and higher (THz) frequency range, where a resonant cavity is usually added to control frequency. The resonator can be based on a waveguide, coaxial cavity and YIG resonator.

Microwave Mixer Diode

The dependency of rf impedance on i-f impedance in diode mixers is clarified by visualizing the mixer as a frequency-changing attenuator. The contributions of series diode resistance to impedance and conversion loss are calculated. Microwave circuits for measuring and matching mixing diodes are presented to simulate properly the mixing environment in the measurement.

Klystron Power Supply, Model KPS-151, is a state-of-the-art solid state, regulated power supply for operating low power Klystrons such as 2K25, 723 A/B, RK 5976, 726, K-19 etc. In addition to AM and FM modulation of Beam current, a provision for externally modulating the klystron supply with desired signal wave form has been provided. Model KPS-151 utilizes quality components, rugged construction and ergonomically designed front panel. A careful handling of the instrument will provide years of trouble free service.



Voltage Standing Wave Ratio Meter

The SWR meter or VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) meter measures the standing wave ratio in a transmission line. This is an item of radio equipment used to check the quality of the match between the antenna and the transmission line. The VSWR meter should be connected in the line as close as possible to the antenna. This is because all practical transmission lines have a certain amount of loss, causing the reflected power to be attenuated as it travels back along the cable, and producing an artificially low VSWR reading on the meter. If the meter is installed close to the antenna, then this problem is minimized.

Gunn Oscillators utilize the bulk negative conductance properties of Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Indium Phosphide (InP) Gunn diodes to convert direct current (dc) into power at millimeter wave frequencies. Circuits incorporating the Gunn diodes are designed to provide state-of-the-art performance at frequencies from 18 GHz to above 120 GHz. InP Gunn Oscillators yield higher output power, higher efficiency, and lower AM noise than their GaAs counterparts. Tunable models feature high power-bandwidth products. Custom units are available to meet special customer requirements. ZAX is continuously advancing the state-of-the-art with new models to meet the highest performance requirements.

A klystron is a specialized linear beam vacuum tube (evacuated electron tube). They are used in technologies for very high-power applications, such as synchrotron and radar systems. Klystrons are used as an oscillator (such as the reflex klystron) or amplifier at microwave and radio frequencies to produce both low-power reference signals for superheterodyne radar receivers and to produce high-power carrier waves for communications and the driving force for linear accelerators.
