'Ayurveda' means 'the science of life'. Ayurveda not only offers treatment through medicine, therapies and diet control, but is also a way of life to achieve a healthy body, peaceful mind and contented soul.
Ayurveda is based on the concept of the three doshas, or basic constituents, which make up not only the human being, but the entire natural world:
Vata - The principle of movement, related to the elements of air and space.
Pitta - The principle of fire and interaction, related to the elements of water, fire and air.
Kapha - The principle of solidity, related to the elements of earth and water.
Your basic constitution determines the way in which you interact with your environment and indicates the types of diseases that you may develop. Once you understand your constitution, you can learn to balance your body and adapt your diet and behaviour to suit your basic nature.
