A selection of alloys are employed in the Bronze Ingots process and these are typically alloys such as Copper 90%, Tin 6% and Zinc at 4% but dependent upon the application that these Ingots may be subjected to, these percentages can be altered to ensure the correct quality of Ingots alloys for the work involved. Although Bronze as a metal compound contains Copper, it is the incorporated use of other alloys which determine the different qualities of the Ingots. The incorporation of Tin for example in the alloy makes this particular alloy the strongest of all alloys with the sole exception of steel.
Advantages of Bronze casting.

 

Every type of Bronze Ingots offers excellent resistance to corrosion which is further helped by a naturally occurring film which forms on the metal due to the weathering of the alloy and assists in the anti-corrosion characteristics. As a particularly dense alloy it offers high strength capacity in stress environments.

The Gun Metal Ingots - Leaded LG1, LG2, LG3 and LG4, are the most popular group of alloys for general Ingots purposes. LG2 is used for the production of such items as valve bodies and fittings, impeller and centrifugal pump bodies. It offers moderate cost and good corrosion resistance however, LG4 offers improved mechanical properties and better resistance to impingement and cavitation attack in contact with fast moving waters. LG3 is somewhat intermediate in properties between LG2 and LG4. The remaining alloy has the distinct advantage of lower cost but is inferior in all other respects to the other three alloys in this group.

Phosphor Bronze Ingot are available in either Leaded Bronzes or Leaded Phosphor Bronze. The following Bronzes LB1, LB2, LB3, LB4, LB5 and LPB1 are most often used as bearings for their wear-resisting properties but are applied where loading is less severe and lubrication and alignment less satisfactory. The lead is present as isolated particles in the structure and thus acts as its own lubricant if the applied lubrication breaks down. Phosphor Bronze high lead alloys LB1, LB4 and LB5 have particular advantages in this respect but because of their low strength and high plasticity they are only suitable for light loading and require rigid backing. LPB1, LB2 and LB3 have somewhat higher strength and rigidity and are thus excellent general purpose bearing alloys.

These alloys have a range of uses and classification such as AB1 and AB2. Typical uses for AB1 are selector forks and levers. AB2 has outstanding resistance to sea water directly due to the thin film of aluminum oxide on the external surface making aluminum Ingot incorporating bronze particularly suitable for the offshore and marine industry.

 

Both AB1 and AB2 Ingot  can be used in direct contact with acids, particularly in such applications as metal treatment and are also utilised for handling boiler feed waters but, in certain adverse conditions, AB1 may suffer from de-aluminification. Another feature of aluminum ingot  with bronze is that the finished casts offer very high resistance to sparking and are common in industries such as chemical plants, refineries and combustible gases manufacturing.
